Golfclub Rügen e.V.

Am Golfplatz 2, D-18574 Garz OT Karnitz/Rügen, Germany

Characteristics

The golf course is situated in the heart of the island of Rügen. Everyone can learn how to play golf here without having to become a member. Since some of the courses are open to the public, the club offers a harmonic blend of club life and public operation.

The centrepiece of the club is an 18-hole tournament course with narrow fairways, an impenetrable rough, and a population of huge, old trees. The Ostseegolfclub Warnemünde e.V. is entitled to practice on this course.

Is this a golf course

I have been playing golf for over 40 years never have i ever experienced such a disastrous course. I cannot believe that they had they audacity to even charge us to use the facility. The first 9 holes are non existence. The fairways are like ploughed fields, the greens are so unkept i felt like i was playing in the african bush. The positive thing was that at least you could get a hot meal that was above par.

Beautiful golf day

Today, after 2 years, we went to Karnitz for a 9-hole round and had a really good time.
The site is beautifully integrated into nature and the condition of the area has also improved considerably, although of course not everything is as it should be.
The reception in the ProShop and then in the restaurant was very friendly and accommodating.
For us it was a wonderful trip and we would love to come back.

No luxury meadow but varied currently wild boar damage

Played on March 8th, 2025. The course with an 18-hole PAR 72 course (Challenge Course) and a 9-hole PAR 30 course (Public Course), including driving range, is basically very quiet, so to speak, in the middle of the island of Rügen. A navigation system can't hurt to find the course. There is only a sign just before the entrance. During my visit, only a few motocross bikers in the forest next door disturbed the general peace and nature. The course is slightly hilly, it goes up and down every now and then, but can be easily run by normally athletically ambitious players. Right on the first tee, the drive goes over a very impressive water hazard. As you continue, you never get bored, the courses are varied and integrated into the terrain. There are water hazards every now and then and a few bunkers, especially around the greens, which make the game interesting for ambitious golfers too. There is a real island green on hole 18 and there is a tree in front of the water in the middle of the path to the green. I think the game could be really fun here if it was better maintained. The course was currently still in winter mode and there were winter tees between yellow and red, which is fine. The game was played on summer greens, which were in a rather below-average condition. The fairways were not mown and in some places very wet and deep. There are one or two slightly raised tees. The bunkers could have been cleaned up before the sunny weekend with 18 degrees and t-shirt weather. The course has a big problem not only with moles, but also with wild boars, which left their tracks clearly on several holes. It is painful to see the state and we wish the operator the best of luck in getting it back on track. By the way, there is at least one relatively large tee board on each hole. Play on a sunny Saturday afternoon was manageable. There are no tee times, you just show up and start playing. The employee in the clubhouse/pro shop was very friendly and explained everything in a good mood. Due to the condition of the course, the wild boar damage was pointed out, and the winter operation, the round only cost €40, which was reasonable. For the normal green fee of currently €75 (Monday to Sunday), the course should be in a much better condition. There are discounts for vouchers from the GolfAlbrecht guide. The small clubhouse also has a restaurant with a terrace, which was even open, but I didn't use it. I can't say where Kranitz Castle is, but I may have missed it. There are apparently rooms in the clubhouse where you can stay overnight. It would be nice to have a bit more up-to-date information on the condition of the course on the website. It is certainly much nicer to play a round here in summer operation, in the hope that the damage will then be repaired or at least not as great. But you shouldn't expect a fancy course.
