An old, exciting and challenging golf course near a dying city

The people were friendly. Dinner was not available. No drinks were available after 7 pm. The entire complex (the hotel and Olatz) was simply closed on Wednesday. The layout of the campsite was very interesting, very hilly.
You always have to drive out to eat. Good trattorias were recommended. Salsomaggiore Terme is an old Italian spa town. It still has a magnificently built and restored thermal bath, which, however, is now only a spa. Great old buildings, which are unfortunately slowly falling into disrepair. Of the original five grand hotels, only two remain. The drive to the second golf course offered (El Ducato) takes 50 minutes by car. We were quite disappointed and certainly won't be going back.

The golf courses were very varied, and the condition was okay. Due to the drought, the fairways were brown and very hard, but the greens were well-maintained. It was very inconvenient that the club was completely closed on Wednesdays. The hotel was great, but it was very disappointing that the restaurant was closed during our stay (it's only open on weekends). However, breakfast and drinks were available.
So we had to drive at least 5km to the nearest restaurant every day.

Stunning scenery in the Apennines. The clubhouse is perched high on the mountain, seemingly isolated. The guesthouse is very modern, the rooms are clean, and the bathroom is large with a bidet. Storage space is limited. The large terrace belonging to the room is furnished with two armchairs. Unfortunately, there's no table. The view is breathtaking. The golf course is beautiful. We paid €35 for the cart. Drawbacks: the kitchen closes at 4 pm during the week before, so you have to find a restaurant outside the village or in Salsomaggiore in the evening. Some nights we were alone in the guesthouse and clubhouse. The staff disappears towards evening. So, not for the faint of heart. Swimming in the pool after a round of golf was very pleasant.
