A wonderful challenge on the way to the Netherlands

Very pleasant atmosphere, great sporting orientation and regular tournaments, high number of participants but low number of members. Not overcrowded but very hospitable. Appropriate catering and service staff as well as driving range, shop, pro, courses etc.. and actually never closed in winter! In short, great value for money, the course is a sporting challenge in terms of length, water, rough. Environmentally friendly, pesticides are used little to not at all. Golfers everywhere can expect this, as regulations/laws here everywhere in Germany will limit the quality of the fairways and greens.

The Muehlenhof is considered very demanding due to its length and narrowness with its difficult par 3s and narrow par 5s. The very long par 4s from hole 15 onwards are usually still a challenge at the end of the round. This year the fairways are not runways either due to the lack of irrigation (only the greens and tees are watered). Long transport shots and approach shots are necessary to play under 15. An excellent short game alone does not bring the result in view of the treacherous gusts/winds on the course.

You tend to get bad results if you don't hit straight, long and consistently. Trees are not trimmed regularly and the bottom is not clear either. The rough eats up balls and the first cut is usually a major hindrance to your shot because balls don't rest on top in the clover.

Greens are rather simple, but they are also in a much worse condition than normal. Tracking accuracy and consistent quality are non-existent here. When putting, it is not always possible to push the greens safely; these are very slow greens that have to be played at twice the speed.

By playing on the normal greens between November 1st and March 31st - the course never has a break - the greens and fairways suffer because they are probably never rolled. Unevenness and ruts mean that the surface is not even when mown quickly and some adventurous bounces hit completely unexpectedly. The course offers a lot of scope to increase the difficulty in the future. In any case, it is very rare to find scores below 80 in the scores today, and 85 is rare. You cannot afford to have poor quality shots because there is hardly any chance of making up for this without an excellent shot.

Pity

As in the past, we wanted to play 9 holes.
Unfortunately this is no longer possible.
When asked if we could play 2x 9 holes within a week, the owner refused.
We had 30 degrees today with a bright sun.
Is it that hard to meet a guest.
Pity!!!
Based on the result, we paid and drove on.
There are nicer and better maintained places within a radius of 5 km.

Interesting, flat terrain with water hazards

Had a very friendly reception today in the secretariat and drove a kart across the square. It was relatively little going on. The fairways and greens were lush green and for the season and the past heavy rain in a very good condition. The place is on the Lower Rhine and therefore absolutely flat and not at all cramped. Long hitters have plenty of space to unpack the driver. It has a lot of interesting water hazards and we liked it a lot. The PAR3 holes are all very long but fair.
