45 holes with a water view

Played the yellow course on August 10th, the blue course on August 11th, 2026. The 45-hole resort course is located rather in the middle of nowhere on Usedom, on the Achterwasser lagoon. The course is divided into 18 holes each for the yellow course (par 71), the blue course (par 72), and the red 9-hole course (par 29). I was here once before in 2007 and played the three 9-hole loops that existed then. Since then, the course has expanded by 18 holes. The yellow course is somewhat shorter and easier, also in terms of rating. Unlike the blue course, it doesn't end at the clubhouse after 9 holes, but somewhere at the far end of the grounds. The blue course features four par 5 holes on the back nine, which then feel a bit long. Both courses are gently hilly. The yellow course is relatively easy to walk, while those less athletically inclined should consider using a cart for the blue course, partly due to the occasional longer walk to the next tee. The layouts of both courses are generally interesting, featuring doglegs, water hazards, narrow and open tees, and well-placed bunkers. Blind shots are common on both courses, so it's essential to check the tee markers before teeing off. The yellow course has an interesting downhill par 3 with water to the left of the green. The 9th hole on the blue course, shaped like a horseshoe, presents a real challenge from the tee, culminating in water beside the green at the end. Both courses only have red and yellow tees. An additional tee option would be particularly beneficial on the blue course. A handicap limit would also be helpful here, as many players with a handicap of 54 struggle, especially with the sometimes very high and dense rough. The red course is recommended for beginners. Both courses were generally in good condition, with the fairways being particularly well-maintained. Some of the greens seemed to have fungus and were a bit patchy. A few tee boxes also looked a little worn. It was noticeable that a marshal could have been keeping an eye on things here and there. Two players carrying a bag or golfers playing barefoot were conspicuous. Tee times can be viewed and booked online via the website. The courses are very busy, especially in the mornings during peak season. It eases up in the afternoon when both courses are open. The standard green fee of €80 on all days of the week is generally reasonable, provided all the greens were in impeccable condition. A sundowner fee of €45 applies from 4 pm. Resort guests naturally receive a discount. Green fees are paid at the small golf reception/pro shop, where the staff warmly welcome players. There is also a restaurant (which I didn't use) with a wonderful view of the Achterwasser lagoon. Incidentally, the yellow course offers several beautiful views of the water, while the blue course also has them, though less frequently, as it runs more or less within the yellow course. There's also a small driving range, but it seems to be used by very few. Anyone wanting to play golf on Usedom should tee off here at GC Balmer See.

We played the blue course on May 20,2025. Often underestimated from yellow, at just under 5,500 meters, the hilly course plays significantly longer in strong winds (which are more common here). Dry conditions combined with wind lead to hard fairways and greens. Many fairways are sloped, so longer shots are prone to bouncing into the rough. Approaching the greens also becomes challenging in average conditions. However, there are also a few shorter par 4s that offer opportunities for a good score.
The course was, as usual, well-maintained. Several improvements have been made over the years, such as paving cart paths at critical points and strategically placing additional bunkers. In May, the rough was still relatively light—balls were sometimes findable and playable. Things are certainly different in the summer.
Due to the topography, a cart is recommended for less fit golfers.
The range and chipping green are ok for a quick warm-up. Played range balls and hardly any targets on the range are not very inspiring for training purposes.
Unfortunately, the catering staff on the beautiful terrace—with a view of the golf course or the Achterwasser—was completely overwhelmed. Despite the sunny weather, the shutters were lowered at 5:30 p.m. because the staff was needed for the restaurant/dinner preparations.
Overall, the iS Golf resort on Usedom remains the clear number one. Due to the aforementioned features, the blue course remains challenging, even though the layout lacks any major highlights. There's still room for improvement in terms of training facilities and dining options.

The short course is good. Training areas are good and sufficient! What bothered me a little is the extremely slow game on this course and the average age of the players, it feels like only golfers over 65 years old on this course, is also reflected in the associated hotel.
