Characteristics

The club's own 9-hole course is situated in the middle of the municipal forest of Werl, at the north-western slope of the Haarstrang, a mountain ridge between Soester Börde and the Sauerland region. The course is slightly hilly and is characterised by an old stock of trees. It is reminiscent of an English park landscape. The narrow fairways and the small greens demand a precise game.

Narrow parkland behind commercial area

Played on 9/28/2020. The slightly hilly 9-hole course (cart not required for normal sports enthusiasts) with driving range is located east of Dortmund not far from the A44, probably more in the urban area of Wickede than Werl, on the edge of an industrial area. The golf course is signposted, but when you drive past a motel and an event hall / disco you ask yourself first of all whether you are really in the right place here. You can then park behind any industrial building, next to the club's depot. As soon as you enter lane 1, however, you immerse yourself in a real, sometimes extremely narrow parkland course, seen from the tees. Higher HC are more likely to have problems here. Except for the green of the 9, there are hardly any real water hazards. The two PAR 3 must be played uphill to make it difficult. Hole 3, where you tee off from mats, has a 90 degree dogleg after the rather short tee, the green is not visible from the tee. Lane 5 is the only lane to have two greens lying one behind the other, which you should play separately if you play the round twice. The condition of the fairways and tees during my game was not quite optimal. Some unsightly spots, or even the ground in repair (e.g. the men's tee at 1 was blocked). Due to the trees a lot of shedding on the greens during the season, but otherwise they were fast and faithful despite the current aeration. On a rather cloudy but dry Monday afternoon, the game was brisk, but not overcrowded. The members gave a friendly greeting. At least at the moment there are start times, which as a guest can only be viewed and booked a bit cumbersome after registering with the club. The green fee regulation is simple. There are only daily fees for € 40 on weekdays and € 50 on weekends. There are no surcharges for golfers without a hologram in a way that promotes golf and is thankful for it. However, why not pay for 9 holes only? But there are discounts on the day fee with the Albrecht golf book. When the secretariat is closed (which is probably always the case on Mondays), you pay the green fee by mailbox and entry in a list directly at the hut at the first tee. I did not enter the clubhouse with the adjoining restaurant and terrace, as it was closed and therefore cannot comment on the premises. If you are in the vicinity and prefer narrow parkland areas, we recommend a round. However, 40 € for 9 holes (and doing the round twice did not appeal to me) is a bit too much for “golf behind the industrial park”.

Little forest pearl!

If you find the hidden place near the motorway junction, you will be surprised! Access via logistic halls is more than strange, but then an old, narrow and short forest place is waiting for you. The place is tricky to play and involves big oaks and beech trees in the old parkland design! A totally quiet round and in the sunset a real little forest pearl!

Narrow fairways, good greens

We play on a beautiful autumn-Sunday. The 9 holes have narrow lanes with old trees. Hole 3 has a dogleg to the right, with only 130m possible for the first shot - very unusual. Some haircuts are very tight as the trees restrict the drive. The greens were in good condition, tees and fairway are ok. Overall, a very family atmosphere.
