Characteristics
Already built in 1923 in the interior of a racecourse, the course lay idle for 50 years before it was now completely renewed and expanded. The 9 holes are situated in the middle of a magnificent park terrain with an old stock of trees and bordering natural landscape at the bank of the Elb River, only 10 minutes away from the city centre. The different tees on both half-rounds convey the impression of an 18-hole course.

Played on 3/4/2023. The club with 9 holes (PAR 36) is about 20km away from the A2 coming from Berlin, on the right hand side of the Elbe, a little away from the city center of Magdeburg, in absolute peace. Holes 1,2, 9 as well as the driving range and the practice area are within the Magdeburg racecourse. Holes 3 and 8 are behind a dam and the remaining holes are accessed by crossing a road. The high-voltage lines that sometimes stretch across the square are a bit unsightly. The lanes are flat and at least the lanes outside the racetrack are quite varied. Water actually only comes into play on lane 4 and the number of bunkers is manageable. The challenge on lanes 4 to 7 is the exclusion, where space is limited. At lane 3 (PAR 3) you tee off from an elevated tee (in winter from a mat). Although lane 8 is dead straight and not particularly long, you can't see the green from the tee because the dam is between the end of the fairway and the green. So you have to play about it. The dam is important to prevent a possible flood, as happened here a few years ago. Pictures and signs from the flood of the century can be seen several times. Apparently the water was up to the roof of the weather shelter on the 3rd green. The clubhouse was closed when I visited on a fresh but almost dry Saturday afternoon at the beginning of March. The opening times on the website are incorrect. Unfortunately, the toilets were also closed. Only after an intensive search, also around the horse stables next door, did I find an open toilet. There is a toilet on the course at tee 4, which you can open with an access code (it's on the bag tag). The condition was the wintry seasons according to order. The winter greens could be mowed a little more. As a guest, you can pay your green fee via a green fee mailbox. A sign "Start only with start time" is irritating, since it was not possible to book a start time via the homepage. A start time was not necessary because of the very manageable game operation. As a single player, I was able to play through the 9 holes undisturbed. The course only has 9 holes, but there are two tees on almost every hole and, for example, on the 2nd and 4th even different fairways and so the 8/17 and 9/18 play once as PAR 3 and once as PAR 4. So there is some variety in the round when you play 18 holes. The green fee for 18 holes (50 €) is fine, but for 9 holes, especially on weekends, 40 € are definitely too high. Above all, the bad habit is practiced here of taking a hefty surcharge for players who do not have an “r” in their ID card. Then the rounds at the weekend cost €75 for 18 holes and a whopping €60 for 9 holes. This is not how golf is promoted! In winter, for winter tees and winter greens, the green fees are reduced by 50%. Golfing at racecourses is always something special and the atmosphere around the stables is relaxed, so I can recommend the round here, even if the really big highlights are missing.
