Founded in 1887 in Sandwich, Kent, The Royal St. George's Golf Club holds a unique place in history as the first club outside Scotland to host the Open Championship in 1894. With 15 Opens played here, including the 2021 victory by Collin Morikawa, the course was designed to emulate the ethos of St Andrews in the south. The atmosphere is steeped in tradition, requiring formal attire in the clubhouse, where the lunch in the Dining Room is reputed to be among the finest in the golfing world.

This is a place where you'll be in awe. You'll even get a little nervous when the starter manually announces your tee time on the first tee. Then it's off to the golf highlight in Kent!
The first 9 holes are pure links-style fun, with the ever-present dunes. The back 9 are more open, but no easier, as the wind here makes the game very challenging at times. The greens are extremely large, undulating, and very fast. Overall, the course was in excellent condition at the beginning of October.
The green fee is high, but the course is absolutely worth it!
So if you want to play golf in Kent, you should treat yourself to this experience!

In the meantime I have played 150 - 200 links courses (including 7 open courses) in Europe, Royal St. Georges is by far the best and hardest open course for me! St.Georges is a monster and the greens are the hardest thing I've ever played...! Scenic and design, Royal St. Georges is one of the top 5 links in my personal ranking (Royal County Down, Cruden Bay, Trump Aberdeen, Tralee)! However, in terms of tradition and British charm, not even County Down can keep up with Royal St. Georges! The course is an absolute golfing experience of a very special kind and is part of every Kent golf trip! The fairy is on the upper limit, but you should invest it, it's worth it!!! Golf legends like Harry Vardon, Walter Hagen and Henry Cotton won the Open here ... !!!
Royal St. Georges is a 6 star rating and my absolute # 1 in England, ahead of Royal Birkdale and Lytham St. Annes!
