Characteristics

Pollarded willows characterise the scenic idyll of the Lower Rhine. And thus, it is almost understood that these trees also decorate the golf course. Here, at the foot of the Elten Mountain, in immediate vicinity to the Dutch border, 18 holes were designed on about 100 ha that are surrounded by the entire flora of the Lower Rhine: meadows, pastures, forests and a number of brooks.

Frontier golf with challenges

Played on 11/23/2020. The flat 18-hole course is about 4 km from the A3, a little west of the border town of Emmerich am Rhein, which lies on the Dutch border. Basically there is peace and nature, except for a little highway noise on some railways. You play past forests, meadows, fields and horse farms. The beautiful Borghees castle can also be seen very well from the elevated tee of the 14. If it starts off relatively easily, the level of difficulty increases steadily from the 3rd run. There are some tall trees, penalty areas, boundaries, dense rough, and doglegs. In the end, the 18 with a narrow tee and a large biotope in front of the green. The high handicap has its justification and high HC should possibly take the red tees and take a few balls in addition. The maintenance condition was rather mixed in November and unfortunately leads to a star deduction in the rating. The grass on the fairway was so high and overgrown that you could hardly see the transition to the rough. The ground was wet and heavy at the time of the year and it had to be played with, but one wonders what should be spared here. The tee-offs showed an apparently high game operation over the year, as well as the greens, which in addition to various pitch marks also had a few bald spots and small holes. All in all, it was justified that the green fee is currently reduced to € 35 on weekdays and € 40 on weekends. A surcharge for golfers without a hologram is not charged in a thankful way that promotes golf. You pay the nice employee in the secretariat of the modern club house, who explains everything to you as a guest. The atmosphere is rather relaxed and nobody asked me for a membership card or an HC. The restaurant is currently closed due to corona. There is a driving range and a practice area as well as opportunities to clean your golf equipment after the round. Game operations on a sunny but fresh Monday afternoon in November were brisk, not least because of the current two-person flight rule. Start times are at least currently assigned. Guests should make a reservation by phone, as this is unfortunately not possible and cannot be viewed on the homepage. Despite the high number of matches, I called in the morning and was able to play at 12 noon on the same day. Apparently everything is firmly in Dutch hands, and all information on various signs is bilingual. An estimated 90% of the players come just over the near border to golf. Most of the players were not in a particularly hurry during the round, greeted them in a friendly manner and let me play through as a single player. I can generally recommend the round, but think the place unfolds its charm more in summer when the fairways are mowed

Dutch friendliness

I have spontaneously played here, as currently (September & October 2019) a Aktionsgreenfee of 35 € is offered during the week. Due to alleged space work (on the round were no workers to see) there was another € 5 extra discount. The welcome was very friendly, I was directly informed where the routes to Hole 1 and Hole 10 are. The place is heavily frequented, especially by players from the neighboring Netherlands, and some employees had a Dutch accent. Partly it felt like on vacation. The course was in good overall condition, especially the greens. Some fairways are currently a bit bare, which may be due to the drought of the last 2 years. With Superior but no problem. Scenic, the place has a lot to offer, also is no train like the other, so very varied. Some intersecting power or telephone lines may distract the ball, but the strike must then be repeated. The most demanding hole for me is the track 18. Here I had headwind and after a good tee my iron 7 was unfortunately not enough to reach the island green with the second shot. The place is recommended. I will gladly come again!
