Characteristics

Abeautiful 27-hole-course near the airport, however scenically a small oasis with palm trees, huge cactuses, wide fairways and large greens. The with black lava sand filled bunkers demand presicion. In 2005 the course was redesigned.

Management not interested

We played yesterday and were told we had to play the front/links nine due to maintenance on the north 9. Ironic as for most of the round we encountered diggers, lorrys ans chain saws with some cart paths blocked abs a lot of noise. Not what you want from a round of golf. Nelly the manager has not responded to feedback over 3 days and by visits and emails. Plenty of other golf courses- very disappointing.

Yet another golf course

We played Norte + Links on 19 Jan 2012. Dry, mainly sunny with some clouds, ca 20°. Links is "links" just by name: it doesn't look nor feel like the real thing. Both courses (Norte + Links) are well maintained, look fine, have nice views, although the Links nine are i.m.o. more pleasant. I don't like the blind shots one has to resort to. Beware for laying up at Links hole 4: the water is closer than you anticipate (rather: I anticipated ...). Small things: no logo balls, no stroke saver. Pitch fork for the collection ok. Conclusion: this is yet again one of the many golf courses available, though slightly more attractive then Amarilla which we played two days earlier. But every course, and every game, is a very personal experience.

Worse than improved

The Links Course (1-9) has been renovated in some areas, but mainly cosmetically (e.g., paths) and not on the playing surfaces. This section of the course is clearly the better one and therefore still gets 2 stars.
In our opinion, the Norte Course has been completely ruined. While there weren't many construction sites visible anymore, as others have already mentioned, hundreds of palm trees have been felled, making holes 11-16 truly ugly and featureless. On the 3rd hole, countless bunkers have been built seemingly at random, right in the middle of the fairway. Large areas everywhere – especially around the tees and greens – have been covered with rubble. It's not only visually unappealing, but also technically awful, particularly for less experienced golfers. The Norte Course has become truly terrible.
The driving range was closed. The carts were incredibly annoying. Due to the heavy rain in March, the fairways couldn't be driven on (which is fine), but the buggy frequently blocked the concrete cart path with a sign asking you to stay on the path. So you had to reverse and hope you could drive on the edge of the path. Marshals were around, but they didn't change the pace of a foursome that was holding everyone up behind them. Overeager "caddie masters" offered to carry your golf bag the last couple of meters to the cart, hoping for a tip. The worst day of golf in years, even though the weather was good and the wind was rather moderate. Never again!
