Clubhouse = container + tents

Last played in 2021, everything was ok.
Well, at the beginning of 09/23, we wanted to play there again and spend the night with the camper.
Surprise: New path to the clubhouse because it was demolished and is being rebuilt. Instead, you only find provisional solutions (containers / tents), which deterred us as campers.
There is no information about this on the club website...!!
Conclusion: We moved on.
If necessary, we will play the course again in 2025 when everything is finished and grown in.
Unfortunately not recommended at the moment.

Golfing with a view

We played this place for the first time as guests at the beginning of September and were absolutely thrilled. We were told right from the start that the holes were labeled differently than those listed on the Garmin golf watch and this was no problem at all. The holes were varied and we found the greens relatively quickly. Well-kept fairways and the usual levels of difficulty. The views of the sea are magnificent from everywhere. We had a lot of fun playing there. Unfortunately we don't have time to test the gastronomy but we'll definitely do that on this holiday because we'll be playing there again.

Definitely not worth the trip

Track 1.245m long, flat, zero obstacles, wide as anything and that's HC 2 !!! ...
At first I thought I was lost on idiot hill. but it's like this: with the exception of 4 lanes, it's flat and wide and nothing sticks in your memory. just don't be fooled by the beautiful photos: they show the only hole that goes down and up, simply from all perspectives... but in the background you can see the flat rest.

the greens are so-so, and with one exception, flat as a pan. the bunkers are badly placed (hardly anyone lands there), mostly only flat sandy areas and the sand is to forget. You can't sell it as a links course either. the few isolated high grass areas are very limited and are often far from the shot.
Conclusion: there is seldom a real joy in golf.
To me, that's uninspired lowland Indian golf.
Anyone who rated this place 4 or 5* fell in love with the great view of the sea or the sunset. certainly OK, but has little to do with the space itself.

green fee: 80€ (weekdays, high season).
The 19th hole is really worth mentioning positively. very good gastronomy!

Good morning Mr Peter,

Thank you for letting us know your impressions about your recent visit to our golf course. We are sad to read that you did not enjoy your time playing Golf d'Etretat. However, we would like to clarify some points with you in order to understand better some of your thoughts.

Our clubhouse and parking are under major renovation since january 2023 and until february 2024. Because of this renovation, we have been in the obligation of changing our facilities for this season (it was changing our facilities or no golf for this year) and we have been in the obligation of finding a spot to start the course from. The hole you talked about (245 mts, HCP 2) is the usual hole number 3 and it has its tee boxes at 394 (white), 382 (yellow) and 330 for the blue and red tees. It is indeed quite a challenging hole but in order to acomodate our temporary bar&restaurant, the use of those tee boxes has been stopped and we use advanced tee boxes (just not to hit the terrace from the tee). These changes have been allowed by the French Golf Federation and they suggested us to not change the difficulty of the course for a year duration. That is why te first hole is "easier" this season. and keeps the HCP2 difficulty.

Our course has been created in 1908 and for that time this course was a bit hilly (as you can still notice in the back nine, with some pretty steep holes, ex. actual 13,14,15,17). I don't think this should be a problem not having a hilly course. Many of the people playing here think our course is actually quite steep...

Our greens are, with no doubt, not fast greens neither sloppy. In windy days, the challenge could become very tricky for the most part of the people and we re not looking to have a difficult course, but a enjoyable one for everyone coming to play once or our membres playing regularly.

Same for the bunkers, as I guess your playing conditions did not have much wind. The bunkers can get in play for every player with windy conditions. Unfortunately some of the bunkers have been there since the creation of the golf course in 1908 and the distances were not the same at that time. But the wind plays a major role in the placement of the bunkers.

As you might be aware of, there is only one real links in France, which is Granville Golf course n Normandy too. We are a marine golf course on top of the cliffs and we are very proud of that, but we won't never sell our course as a links course.

We are happy to read that you had a good lunch and we are sorry that we didn't meet your expectations. Our marine golf course will be waiting for you in the future, and hopefuly you will be able to visit us in our new building (with our brand new putting green and short game area opening at the same time) and maybe change your opinion from us.

We whish you a nice golfing season

Iñigo
