Characteristics

Those who deal with golfing uncomplicatedly and come here without great expectation for a solid club life, will feel right at home from the beginning. Villafranca can be compared with the philosophy of many Australian and Irish golf clubs, where the gained score isn't the most important thing. The golf course, flanked by fruit tree plantages, leads the golfer through the magnificent landscape

Chaotic rip-off

The course is very confusing with bad signage. At times we had no idea if we were on the right fairway. The 5th appears on the back of the scorecard as going alongside the road but that is the 15th. The online distance indicators also partly show the wrong holes. The course itself (in early June) had no brown patches but a lot of clover on the fairways and the greens weren‘t great. Worst of all is the green fee. They show it on their website as €50. When we arrived, we were told that is the fee for Italian golfers and foreigners must pay €80! Having driven there, we paid but even if it is legal, they should warn people on the website. The girl behind reception did then give us a voucher for two free drinks. For €50 it is at the limit given the state of the course but €80 is basically a disgrace. Conclusion: Don‘t bother

Inadvisable

I've been there a few times over the past few years, and this year was no different. The course is no longer recommended. A disaster. On holes 3-4, there are excavation pits, each 20 m long and 5 m deep. There's only rough next to the fairways. Balls can't be found there. The last holes are crisscrossed, and it's hard to see where to go. The poor condition of the course makes it seem somewhat neglected.

A beautiful experience, the expectations must be right

A round in Villafranca can be a lot of fun. The course is in good condition, with the exception of the water hazards. The tees are clearly marked, the fairways are in good condition and the greens were also OK. The course is definitely recommended for players who play rounds between 85 and 100. Apart from that, the green fee is a bargain.
You have to be aware that you are not playing on one of the top 20 courses in Italy. But it is still worth it, the team is friendly and helpful, you are greeted everywhere and the restaurant also offers one or two pleasant surprises.
So if you go there with the right expectations and don't expect a championship course, a visit is always worthwhile.
