Characteristics
The river Lerrone and its tributaries partly affect the game and can drastically influence the result. At the 3, the 5, the 11 and the 12 a lot is demanded mentally since the river is in some places up to 40 m wide. At the 13 the faster flowing water already optically complicates the 185 m long par 3. To make the things even more complicated there's often a quite strong wind. Those who manage to play their handicap here can feel proud of themselves.

A natural place

I played the course several times at the end of July 2021 and found it interesting and sometimes challenging - strategic play is an advantage. At some holes water hazards come into play; Well-placed trees come into play at other holes. In the back you can hear the street, but it doesn't necessarily bother you. The first holes are quieter. The greens were quick and very well maintained. Between the holes, the maintenance status is sometimes "casually Italian". If you are in the area you should definitely play the course.

Very varied, slightly hilly course, no lanes with many doglegs, greens often protected by bunkers. However, like in Italy, greens have many unrepaired pitch marks. Fairways poorly mowed. Service and restaurant nice, but everything is very old (1965). Many good restaurants in the area and of course the Hotel Meridiana, great!

On our trip to the south of France Garlenda is usually the first stop - in 1993 was the first visit. As a rule, we sleep here in the hotel, just for the sake of the kitchen. The operation is very pleasant, very relaxed.
The care and maintenance of the place is good, but rather a bit rustic in comparison with other places.
The layout is fine, certainly not a top spot.
The moderate terrain transitions still provide for sporty golf, especially in hot weather. The course is still good to play on foot.
We judge the golf course as average. For us, the location just before the French border is the big plus for Garlenda, as well as the hotel and the kitchen.
