Characteristics

The 18-hole course is a (golf) oasis in the middle of the Ruhr area. The first nine holes spread over a hilly terrain, framed by coniferous and deciduous forest and offer views on the open fields. Because of partly very narrow aisles, the fairways call for a precise game. Seven of the nine new holes are situated at the bend of the Ruhr. They offer a panoramic view over the Ruhr landscape with forested riverside mountains, river, view on the "Platte" and in the direction of the "Villa Hügel."

Known for its relaxed atmosphere Oefte also offers competive players a great test. Both Jack Nicklaus and Bernhard Langer have played the course. After Jack played here he went on to win the Open Championship in 1978 the next week. Today some of Germany´s best amateurs and teaching professionals come here to compete. Since 2015 Haus Oefte is the home of the North Rhine-Westphalian Team Championship Willy Schniewind. In 2017 and 2018 Haus Oefte hosted the H&H Golf PGA Club Professional Series tournaments.

Wrong season for the course

Normally at least four stars! But unfortunately, I have to say that in this damp weather, the course isn't that great to play, especially when the greens are all sanded. There are some very interesting holes and they'd probably play better in dry conditions, but the balls are always covered in mud and sand, making everything dirty, which isn't as much fun.
Reception very friendly, restaurant unfortunately closed. We'll definitely play the course again in the summer, but unfortunately, no more than three stars today.

Really beautiful!

Despite the extreme rain, the Essener Oefte course was in very good condition.
The first 9 holes are perfectly integrated into the hilly woodland. Large trees, good greens, and uphill and downhill sections, but not too steep.
The 8 and the 9 are the two best holes on the front 9!
Holes 10 and 18 are again slightly uphill.
After crossing a small bridge, you play the 11th to 17th holes in a beautiful park landscape, completely flat and partly alongside the Ruhr!
Haus Oefte is a real highlight overall! The bar, etc., are all new! For me, however, the highlight was hole 9, which is completely open to Haus Oefte! Definitely a solid 4-star and an old pearl of North Rhine-Westphalia!

A gem in Essen for golfers

A beautiful golf course, a new practice facility for improving your short game. A family-friendly sports facility that comes highly recommended.
