Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Course offers a traditional links experience in the shadow of a 14th-century ruin. Originally established in 1900 and later redesigned by the legendary James Braid, the layout hugs the coastline of Embleton Bay. My wife (handicap 6) and I (handicap 1) played the course at the end of July 2026 in 20°C weather and 25 km/h winds. The greens, some of which were quite undulating, were in very good condition. The fairways had suffered a little due to the drought, but were still very playable.
You have really great views of the sea and Dunstanburgh Castle, and the place is very varied.
For a total of £65 per person, in addition to a great round of golf, there was a sandwich beforehand and a burger afterwards.
