Played on July 2,2026. The 18-hole course with driving range and attached hotel is located approximately 18 miles east of Edinburgh, between the towns of Longniddrey and Aberlady. The entrance to the club is signposted. The course is separated from the sea only by the neighboring Kilspindie Golf Club. The sea is visible from more or less every hole of this links course. The course is generally flat and typical of a links course, with few trees and water hazards. The fairways are very open, and the rough is mostly thin, making it easy to find errant shots. Wind is the dominant factor, and there are also several pot bunkers. The tee markers are white, blue, and green. Tee markers are provided by posts. After nine holes, you are back at the clubhouse. There's only one toilet on the course, and it's for men only (an open-air metal urinal) by the 11th green. Holes 10 and 11 are played between a few elegant villas; otherwise, it's very peaceful and surrounded by nature. The fairways are mostly quite straight without any particular highlights, but it's never boring. The course was in excellent condition. The greens were true, fast, and gently undulating. Playing on a Thursday at midday was manageable. We booked a 12:00 PM tee time online that morning and were even able to start a little earlier. We paid £125 per person for the round, plus £7 for the trolley. While this is less than at the exclusive clubs in North Berwick, and supposedly even a discounted rate of £165, it's still quite steep. However, playing on a true links course with a sea view makes it worthwhile. The pro shop employee was friendly. After our round, we had lunch in the modern clubhouse. They offer a two-course set menu for £19 at lunchtime. The food was good and the service friendly and attentive. If you like links golf, this is the place for you.

The links courses in the East Lothian area are mostly characterized by being flat, parallel holes, hard fairways and fast greens, and often running very close to the Atlantic. In contrast to Links Course, where fairways are built in the middle of the hilly dunes, the challenge here seems less. Sometimes, especially when it's windy, that's deceptive. The place has its pitfalls, you can't just "downplay" it. The score card after the round shows one or the other player that the course may have been underestimated. Advantage: hardly any ball losses. We enjoyed the day in Craigielaw and can definitely recommend the place.
