Characteristics

Located on the Rosses Point peninsula, some four miles from Sligo, this is one of Ireland's greatest championship links courses. Founded in 1894 and remodelled by the great Harry Colt in 1929, it is considered one of the very best links courses in the country by all those who have played, including Christy O'Connor Jnr, claimed its penultimate hole to be one of the finest holes in Irish golf.

The course is set above three large beaches on the Atlantic coast in the shadow of Ben Bulben, Ireland's version of Table Mountain. There are plenty of highlights and plenty of surprises.

Authentic links golf

We were completely alone on the pitch with 40 km/h wind and clear water from the sky that stung our faces. More left-feeling is hardly possible. Some golf course architects have been inspired by this course, e.g. B. Winston Links near Schwerin. The first 9 holes we had a strong tailwind. We had the best view on the white tee of hole 14. We particularly liked the last few holes, even if they were long enough to play against the wind. We will hardly ever forget this round. In the clubhouse we were treated to a round of drinks, as a sort of tribute to the crazy Germans

A link course with time-honored clubhouse

The first and more than impressive thing I noticed when we arrived was this old (but not old-fashioned) club house. You walk awesome through the wooden corridors. An experience. After all, there is this golf course since 1894. It is said that he is easier to play, that is deceptive. The Faiways are so hilly, that despite good punches the ball is somewhere else, as one suspects. That's unfair, as the score suffers. But you should also just enjoy the place and this great panorama. The waves, the pastures with cattle or sheep next to the tracks. Just Ireland for the soul. Again, as always, this great hospitality.
