Vidago Palace Golf Course

Parque de Vidago, P-5425–307 Vidago, Portugal

Characteristics

Located just an hour from Porto, the Vidago Palace Golf Course offers a journey through history and nature within a protected centenary park. Originally laid out by Philip Mackenzie Ross in 1936, the course was masterfully redesigned by Cameron & Powell to meet USGA specifications while retaining its classic spirit. The par-72 layout unfolds in three distinct chapters: opening within the dense woodland of the upper park, descending into the open Oura Valley for the middle holes, and returning to the heights for a spectacular finish with panoramic views. A highlight is the clubhouse, a historic 1886 stone building reimagined by renowned architect Álvaro Siza Vieira, perfectly complementing the adjacent Belle Époque hotel and famous thermal springs.

Beautiful golf course, no clubhouse

The golf course offers a challenging round for all players, with doglegs, well-placed bunkers, interesting greens, and a well-maintained course.
The restaurant was closed and the bar unfortunately didn't invite you to linger.

Parkland fun

Unfortunately the place was a bit wet at the end of October. But he's still fun. Narrow fairways, elevated tees, elevated greens, doglegs, it's all there that's fun. The course is slightly hilly, but can easily be mastered on foot. You should definitely play if you are nearby.
