Designed in 1912 by the legendary Dr. Alister MacKenzie, Reddish Vale Golf Club offers a surprising golfing sanctuary just five miles from central Manchester. Despite its urban location, the course feels completely secluded, set within a hidden valley along the River Tame. The layout is a classic example of MacKenzie’s philosophy, utilizing natural ravines, gullies, and undulations to create a strategic figure-of-eight rout. It is not a test of brute length, but rather of precision, featuring bold, rolling greens and engaging risk-reward decisions. The experience is anchored by South Cliffe House, a stone-built Victorian manor offering panoramic views toward the Peak District, providing a historic setting for post-round relaxation.

Spectacular course

Can't believe I am so close to this course and have only just found it. I couldn't imagine a good golf course in Reddish - but it is.
The river comes into play quite a bit so take a few balls just in case. All the holes are different. After all the rain it was dry, the greens were actually fast and there were buggies on the course. I like hitting off raised tees and there are at least three good ones. Had a pint in 19th hole its nice in there. Pro was helpful.

Reddish Vale is a course that takes you by surprise. Tucked away behind dreary 1930s housing the first impression is of a bog-standard suburban parkland course - an impression that changes completely as soon as the approach shot required to the first green is glimpsed!
The round that follows is a roller-coaster ride over gulleys and ravines and down into the lovely valley of the River Tame. No two holes are the same and many are out of the top drawer.
Easily the best course in the South Manchester area.
