Newburgh on Ythan Golf Club

Beach Road, Newburgh, AB41 6BY Ellon, Aberdeenshire, UK

Characteristics

Newburgh-on-Ythan Golf Club was founded in 1888 on the Udny links, is set against a dramatic backdrop of the Ythan Estuary, the North Sea and the ever-changing dunes of the Sands of Forvie National Nature Reserve, and is just 3km up the coast from Trump International Golf Links, Scotland.

The course has enormous variety, with every hole presenting a different challenge, and great fun to play (so says Golf World which ranked Newburgh as number 32 in their listing of “fun courses” in Great Britain and Ireland). A true hidden gem.

Welcoming to visitors, tee-times are available throughout the week including Saturday mornings.

The club boasts a modern and spacious clubhouse where a warm welcome awaits and golfers can relax and enjoy the spectacular vista.

A little gem

After rounds of golf on some "top" -Plätzen offered by each golf tour operators in Scotland and were a little disappointing, we then still quite unexpectedly found to end our trip a little gem with real Scottish feel: embedded in the magnificent dune landscape offers of course some of the highlights: "blind" haircuts, undulating, top-manicured greens, partly natural fairways with unusual obstacles (stone walls), and all at an extremely reasonable compared to places everywhere offered green fee! We were greeted very friendly and have us felt very comfortable there. And at the end of the round you can sit in the clubhouse of a large window facade with a wonderful view of dunes, seals and the sea! This place can only recommend!

Great links with two different faces

This golf course proves again that links golf can be very different. Upon arrival, a gentle falls the nachempfunde a bird club house (2001 built) in the eye.

The already over 125 year old place has to offer two completely contradictory 9 hole rounds. The front nine is played on a hill going up and down every now and then. Two extremely long par 3 (from the back tees) and a brilliant downhill dogleg hole 9 are the outstanding holes. In the first half, one should in any case can also lay diagonally games.

The back nine are then completely flat when not having straight down the fairway at once a few feet high wells. Here are also some blind tee to deal with, which you should stop here as possible to the direction marker.

Surrounding the place of a nature reserve is where you can see a myriad of water birds and a seal colony.

I would particularly like to emphasize once the extremely friendly reception in the pro shop!
