Located just north of Bergen in Frekhaug, Meland Golfklubb offers a golfing experience defined by its spectacular natural setting and formidable technical challenge. Designed by architect Robert Hunt, this 18-hole forest course is renowned as one of Norway's most demanding layouts, famously described by former US President Bill Clinton as both beautiful and humbling. The course weaves through dense woodlands and rugged terrain, featuring narrow fairways and large, undulating greens that demand strategic precision over raw power. As a native Norwegian, I enjoy traveling to Norway for golf holidays. Norway may be expensive, but playing golf is relatively inexpensive. We visited Melend Golf Club at the end of August, two years ago and four years ago. It's an exceptionally beautiful and challenging golf course, but there are many of them in Norway. What bothered me was the arrogance when I criticized the fact that the price had doubled since the last time. Which makes it twice as expensive, like most of the equally beautiful golf courses in Norway. €80 for an 18-hole round, no Golfamore, 105 on the weekend, 80 for a golf cart. The membership fees are very reasonable. However, a golf course that claims to be one of the "Leading Courses" also needs good infrastructure: Melend Golf charges €20 for a camper van pitch, but: The pitches aren't level, the showers are reminiscent of school gym showers from 70 years ago, there are no towels, and they're downright dirty and unappetizing. The "restaurant" only served snacks and drinks. We originally planned to stay overnight, but we decided to leave.

In 2010,2015 and 2018 I had the pleasure of playing there. The place is very demanding with many bunkers and water hazards. nice view of the fjords and a coffee break at the hut.
