Great Torrington Golf Club offers a unique glimpse into the origins of the sport. Founded in 1895 and situated on the historic Furzebeam Hill within the Torrington Commons, this course is a hybrid of heathland and parkland. Although comprising only nine holes and measuring just under 4,500 yards for a full round, the sloping terrain and tight turf demand precision over power. The layout is technical, with challenging green complexes that test players of all levels. After the round, the homely clubhouse provides a cosy bar and a covered 'spike bar' area, reflecting the club's friendly, member-owned atmosphere in the heart of rural North Devon.
