The Waakirchen Tegernsee Golf Club is beautifully situated near Lake Tegernsee and raised high expectations in me—especially since I remembered the course as promising about nine years ago. Unfortunately, I was disappointed during my visit this summer.
Security concerns:
A key issue is course safety. In several places, there's an acute danger of being hit by a golf ball—both as a player and as an innocent bystander. At one teeing area, my ball even threatened to endanger cyclists or passing cars. A well-thought-out course design with clear boundaries seems to be lacking here.
Condition of the system:
Unfortunately, the entire facility feels very makeshift. The infrastructure is rudimentary, the clubhouse resembles more of a temporary solution, and the maintenance of the fairways and practice areas leaves much to be desired. The green fees advertised do not represent value for money.
Service & atmosphere:
The head pro was unapproachable when asked a simple question and seemed more arrogant than helpful. The club office also seemed distracted. Overall, there was a lack of hospitality and professionalism – aspects one would certainly expect at a golf club in this location.
Gaming culture & etiquette:
Unfortunately, it was noticeable that some players showed little regard for etiquette and playing behavior. The overall impression was more reminiscent of a public square without clear rules or supervision.
Conclusion:
Despite its idyllic location, this facility's potential hasn't been fully realized. Those who value safety, well-maintained courses, and a pleasant club experience should look for alternatives in the region. Unfortunately, I couldn't recommend this visit.

We visited this golf course at the end of March 2025 and were impressed by its excellent condition! The fairways and greens were well-maintained, and the game was even more enjoyable thanks to the stunning views of the Bavarian Alps. The course is a real insider tip, especially for golf novices, and is easily accessible, just a half-hour drive from Munich.
Even though there's currently no clubhouse as such and the usual amenities are rather unconventional, the course does offer light snacks and refreshing drinks, as well as sunny seating for a relaxed chat after your round. So, if you don't value luxury but want to play a well-maintained golf course at a fair price, this is definitely the place for you!
