Characteristics

The Golfclub Schmallenberg is situated on an area of 120 ha, in the middle of one the most beautiful landscapes of the Central German Uplands. Its most prominent aspects are an altitude between 415 and 510 m, a bracing climate and a sunny high plateau, which offers panoramic views on the Hunau and Rothaar mountains. It is a manicured course, which has been arranged in close touch with nature, and its holes have been built in a way that now provides the most beautiful views on the landscape. The level of difficulty is strongly influenced by features of the landscape.

North and west course

The North Course was absolutely fantastic. Superb condition, lush green, and beautiful fairways. Add to that lovely tee shots and good, true greens that were of average speed. Plus, I had the place to myself (millionaire golf). I'd give it a solid 5 stars. Unfortunately, the West Course was chaos. Suddenly it was extremely crowded. And of course, the classic scenario: A) dropping in on the course, B) not holding up the group ahead, and C) then absolutely not letting them play through. The layout was also noticeably worse, and this section was significantly more played. There were suddenly a lot of pitch marks on the greens. Some of the bunkers were unkempt. And some of the tee boxes were in terrible condition. Sorry, but I can do without that.
I don't understand how something like this can happen. There are start times, after all. Unfortunately, this second part has significantly tarnished my otherwise very positive impression.
I found the food to be clearly based on the impression of the northern route.

3x different

I played the three times 9 holes at the end of July 2022. Due to the weather, the fairways are sometimes a bit dry. The discounts and the greens are very well maintained. We had a nice companion from home who pointed out a few details to us in a meaningful way. You can walk all day with a daily green fee of €75. Due to the beautiful design of the place there is no boredom. I will definitely come back.

Sporting challenge

All three 9-hole courses have their own individual charms, whereby the hilly landscape is best mastered with an electric trolley. A good knowledge of your own shot distances and a tactical game are essential!
There is a charging station for players with electric cars.
