Good 9 Hole course requires good strategy
3.0 of 5 starsReviewed August 10, 2016
The golfclub is quite easily accessible either by car (10-15 minutes from central) or public transport (Bus 32A straight from Leopoldau station, and a few minutes walk).
Looks small and flat, but cannot underestimate due to bunkers and water hazards. Need a good strategy here with irons than longer shots with driver or wood to avoid difficult lies or hazards. Some pitch/chip are challenging too due to the trees and it requires a good practice and strategy to either fly over or between the trees. Loosing a ball is very easy at hole #1/#2 (just next to residential, and bushes on the left if you hooked), and #5 (next to the open farm) depending on the wind conditions/slice/hook. I've lost 3 balls at #5 tee, just because of the strong wind swept the ball to the farm mid flight (Ouch!). The bushes before the 90' fairway turn at the #5 is also a high risk of loosing a ball if it happen to drop there. Hole#1 is quite straight, but there is a pond just before the green, and need a strategy here than longer shots unless you are willing to loose your ball in the pond. For average -45hcp, it could be either boogey or double boogey here. Hole#2 is much easier and just a bunker before the green. Also either Par or Boogie is possible here. But the gound at the green is horrible if the grass is cut recently. Hole#3 looks easy but you have to make sure you can hit pass the pond in front of the green or avoid the pond by flying through the trees. And if you slice it, the bunker is waiting next to the green. Depending on the hcp, it could be either boogey or double boogey (and par for possibly good shots). Hole#4 is easy to play with long shots and less hazards other than the waste area between the #4 and #5 fairways. Hole#5 is quite long and nice but requires a very good strategy to reduce the number of strokes. Hole#6 seems very easy, but have to beware the trees depending on the club used, and also the danger of the water hazard just next to the green. (also making sure not hitting to the ducklings if they happen to be on the green...) Hole#7 is also quite interesting depending on where you tee off, as it might block the visibility to the pin if you don't hit from the far left since the bushes/small tress from the pond might be interfering the view. And it is very common requiring to shout "fore" here as the practice chip/pitch green is just next to the pin. They should put additional net instead of simple out of bound white paint line on the grass. Hole#8 is quite straight forward and provide different tee perspective, but the ground at the tee is a bit too hard. Hole#9 is also very nice with almost no hazards other than a big bunker on the right before the green. And the plums (i guess) from the small tree next to the tee is very sweet and taste really good! In conclusion, it is a very nice 9 hole course that can be completed with just around average 10-15 minutes for each holes, with several challenges and fun.
However, it is advisable to book the tee times carefully during the peak times/days, such as Saturdays or evening times in the weekdays, as other people will ask you to play faster regardless of their high handicaps (or may be just -54). The reason of that is partly contributed by the tee times which are just 10 minutes apart. It could have been much better if they make the tee times 15 or 20 minutes apart at least and everybody on the course can enjoy their game without any stress or inconvenient. With just 10 minutes apart, and if there is a group behind you, it might not be comfortable playing and would be quite difficult to find the ball buried in the long grasses or near the bushes during the limited time (particularly for the Hole#5 and #7). It just funny to see that the people who ask you to hurry up tend to use their drivers for this short course and they always hit not more than 15-30 meters with a big hook or slice... ironically. That kind of experience is not fun when you are trying to enjoy your game.
Also, while there are several nice players with single digit hcp or

An oasis of golfing peace and quiet in the bustling city. ideal for nine holes before work or a full game after work.
Not the longest course but some testy short holes which require accuracy and neat putting on lovely greens. The 9th par 4 is far from easy, where 4 is a good score and the dog leg par 5 is the signature hole, which requires some thought, reachable in 2 but high risk.
Add to this a bright modern clubhouse, lovely food and friendly staff and you have a gem in the heart of one of Europe's great capitals.

Not a golf course, more like a large range.

Tees off mats, tiny greens where you have to hack at the ball, so it has nothing to do with putting, narrow fairways and lots of loud players running around all over the place who have no idea about golf etiquette. This is a short practice course for people who don't care about the short game and are practicing how to get their 80/90 m shots right. That's OK, but then it should be called a range and not a golf course.
A total disappointment for golfers looking for a halfway serious course, whether beginner or advanced. Never again, a waste of time and money.
