Golf du Mont d'Arbois

3001 route Edmond de Rothschild, F-74120 Megève, France

Characteristics

Initiated by Noémie de Rothschild in the 1920s, Le Golf du Mont d'Arbois is recognized as the oldest mountain golf course. Perched on a plateau above Megève at an altitude of 1,320 meters, the 18-hole layout was redesigned by Henry Cotton to offer a gentle, flat terrain rarely found in alpine settings. The course is maintained with the precision of a French garden and offers exceptional views of the Aravis range. Committed to sustainability, the club employs eco-friendly practices, avoiding chemical products on greens to protect local biodiversity.

Lovely mountain course

Located above Megėve on the road up to the mountain airport this mountain golf course is designed into a ski slope. The ski piste runs right over some greens: traces can be seen in spring. I played on May 27 2012 and some greens were clearly not up to standards. Nevertheless the round was enjoyable.
The course layout is mainly up the hill in parallel lines and then down again. Nice trees and good views into the mountains around Megėve. Some cute par threes. Within the alps it is a good course.
What is outstanding: the reception and the proshop were extremely friendly and helpful. There was no taxi available, so the owner of the proshop offered to take me downtown Megėve to my hotel. What a lovely gesture: thank you!
