Characteristics
The terrain around the Lago Maggiore with its lush vegetation, lively colours anf the variety of trees and flowers is ideal to play golf. Iles Borromées is situated on the mountainous side of the lake, 600 m above sea level, and spreads over 72 he natural area that, except for two swampy spots, which were transformed into lakes, wasn't changed. The hilly location demands a bit of perservance.

Having moved to the area from Dubai I was looking for a home course. I couldn’t been happier here. It’s not the manicure of Dubai of course but this is an excellent test of your golf. Great greens. Fairways really make you think and play your way around the course. And it’s not just about hitting the ball as far as you can, and then doing it again. This is real golf. The most beautiful scenery on the course plus views of the lakes that make a poor round of golf worthwhile. Great helpful staff just a proper golf club.

I have played here many times and have enjoyed it every time. The course is hilly up and down through gorgeous birch trees. It's all pretty narrow and not necessarily in perfect condition but the last time I was there both fairways and greens were great. The are long walks between some greens and tees but particularily between the 9 th and 10th. Th club provides a shuttle to take you there and back. Nevertheless this is a course where a buggy is a good idea (for those of us over 60).
There are stunning views as far as Milan from the higher holes.
The clubhouse is straightforward and welcoming. Good food and wine. Do not miss out on eating here.

Exciting, but with minor flaws

An interesting course to play on very hilly terrain. The holes themselves are sometimes spectacular, but I expected them to be more difficult based on the previous descriptions. The greens, however, were challenging and fun to play, especially with their very pronounced undulations.
The course was in good condition, with good fairways and very good greens, but the sand bunkers were terrible (pure concrete). There's a portable toilet on the 10th hole – takes some getting used to.
Nevertheless, I would play the course again anytime and enjoy the topography and unspoiled nature.
Whether on foot or by cart: it's quite hilly, and there are often long distances between lanes. We basically walk to every lane, but booked a cart on someone's advice; it was worth it. This course is only really manageable on foot for fit young athletes.
GF (weekdays) €75, cart €30.
The 19th hole is quite OK. The menu selection is acceptable.
