Characteristics

The golf course in Bad Kissingen is one of the oldest in Bavaria and the whole of Germany. It covers a terrain of 110 acres and is situated a mere 1.5 miles from Bad Kissingen. Its special characteristic is the Fränkische Saale meandering along and through the course. Since the Saale and the Lolbach provide enough hazards, two holes did not have to be equipped with bunkers or additional hazards at all.

Simply being nice is not enough.

The online booking of the tee time didn't work because the system didn't recognize the Austrian home club. It can happen, but it shouldn't.
However, the club office staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, both on the phone and on the day of the game. TOP! Oldest golf club in Bavaria. OK. But it has always been, and still is, built on far too little land. Parking is in a hikers' parking lot right next to the main road. The driving range has a maximum of 10 tees for a maximum distance of 150 meters.
Many fairways close together. Pitching green right next to a 160m par 3 green. The direct target for every slice. Two tee boxes placed in the middle of the woods. Cycle/hiking path, pedestrians fully involved in the game. BE CAREFUL. Just to make golf holes possible somehow.
Course maintenance: tee boxes, bunkers and fairways average to good.
The fun really stopped at the greens. All 18 were incredibly dull, offered no spin whatsoever, and were the slowest greens I've played in 20 years. The greens bordering the woods (too much shade) were particularly problematic, as they also had numerous bare patches and pitting. Hitting the putting line and then holding it was a struggle. Absolutely impossible.
However, the restaurant and its staff were at the expected standard. It was fine.

Overall, the day was okay. We've now played this course once. But we probably won't come back, because it will remain a cramped playing area. Even if the greens were to be improved someday.

Gorgeous and super cute!

Varied, fair tracks. Sometimes hitting the valley, sometimes over the mountain, sometimes along the river. Everything included. Old stock of trees and beautifully situated. And above all: super nice! A reception like in a wellness hotel (incl. shoe rental!) and dedicated service at hole 19. Can only be recommended.

Yes, of course, venerable...

Such old places always get a bonus! A lot is accepted there that one would be upset about with younger systems. A chipping green right next to a longer par 3 green, not visible from the tee. Crossing lanes, a long par 4 on which you have to share the already narrow lane with the foreplayers who are on the way to the next tee, rubber mats as tees etc..
Everything is ok, after all it is a traditional place. Less ok the musty reception in the secretariat and incredibly slow greens! There are clubs with just as much and even more tradition where it works better.
