The rating refers only to the course itself and not to the access road, the catering, the pro shop, the friendliness of the secretariat, or other things that have been praised excessively here.
The layout is, to say the least, unusual. We were warned about it in the pro shop, but we still had to ask around to find the 2nd hole. We ended up not playing the 8th, but taking the inconspicuous route to the 5th. This layout just makes me shake my head. Holes 3,7, and 14 are particularly unusual, especially regarding the tee shots. You definitely shouldn't stray from the fairway on any hole. On some holes, like 15 and 16, good tee shots don't pay off, as they roll into the rough. The semi-rough is far too narrow here. On top of that, it's really quite noisy (from the railway line and the road). I found the green speed annoying; it was really slow. However, the greens themselves were true. There was bunker sand, but it was extremely stony. Thanks to the lack of tee times, more players dropped in on the 10th.
PS: I'm at least surprised by the frequent 5-star reviews (8 one-time reviews). A cynic might suspect something's amiss.

I haven't been to the Peiner Hof in a long time, and just driving down the beautiful avenue, you can feel the positive energy here. A lot has changed here, and the course is now truly beautiful. The fairways are beautifully maintained, and the greens are perfectly trimmed. I also liked the many animals. After our round, we had dinner at Goldschätzchen. There you have a beautiful view of the lake and nature. Overall, it feels a bit like a vacation. I can absolutely recommend a trip, especially since Hamburg is within easy reach.
