Improved significantly

We have been in Estepona for nine weeks (dec.- feb.) and played on all five courses in the surrounding area. But we prefered to play almost only on Estepona golf course, because it is the one with lush green grass on the course, like we have it in Central European regions in summer. The greens are in good condition and the fairways are juicy green and not earthy, brown or grey. Due to the new ownership, the course-quality, the management and the hospitality improved significantly. The price performance ratio is ok. Congratulation to the new stuff working there! We will be back soon.

Much improved facilities and course.

We first played EG during Covid- the course and clubhouse were tired, though the welcome was warm. We returned this week having read that a new owner had invested significantly. The clubhouse is now immaculate, serving fairly priced food. The course has really improved, with immaculate greens and pretty good fairways, that are obviously a work in progress in places, but not a distraction. Course was quiet so no issues about pace of play. Hire clubs were of good standard. Another warm welcome from the Spanish staff. Building work is taking place on the perimeters but nothing intrusive. We were delighted the course appears to be resurrecting itself to former glories.
5/5.

A great layout, its a bit tired in places, bunkers need work, but was warned before play. I enjoyed it and would play it again.

Once is enough

If you like cheap you get cheap, but you also get over bookings, a stack of people who know little about golf, a round lasting 6 hours, and confusion as to whether you are on a golf course or a building site.

Dear Rossie,

Having read your review I would like to tell you a little about the improvements we have made in hope you will one day return to the club. During 2016 we had unbelievable amounts of golfers wanting to play a lot of golf at our club, we have since changed our strategy away from combining green fee golf with memberships which this year has resulted in all of our pay and play clients having the best possible experience (as we no longer have annual members). We have increased tee time intervals to ensure we reduce the amounts of golfers not he course and all of the building work on and around the course is now finished resulting in calm and relaxing playing conditions.

I would love to personally show you all of the improvements therefore if you are in the area and would like to organise a game please feel free to email me directly on jasoncallow@esteponagolf. com

With best regards,

Jason Callow

Great Experience

Played the golf course in October, fantastic layout and a fun test of golf, views are great and staff very friendly, great value for money, and I would recommend this course to everybody.

Space under renovation...

The course has really seen better days, especially with some very questionable fairways. The design of the course is very interesting, it's hard to imagine how the course can be played when everything is in tip top shape here. But I also have to say, you can't get a tea time on the Costa del Sol for less than 100 euros (2 people in a buggy at lunchtime). The employees were also super friendly... We booked the tee time very spontaneously in November 2023 and had a flight to ourselves without any problems.

Not recommended!

The first impression upon arrival? An outdated clubhouse, a bit unkempt but very friendly staff in the secretariat.
We went on the tour with e-trolleys. The golf course is obviously under renovation and should be closed temporarily if such serious renovation work is carried out. A relaxed round of golf was out of the question with this constant and massive construction noise. The fairways were very unkempt and literally screamed for water “no fun without grass”.
The greens were again very moist and deep so that the ball often stayed right there and didn't roll out.
Conclusion, this is the most neglected golf course we have ever played in Spain and, at least at the moment, not recommended.

Interesting, poorly maintained place

Unfortunately, I can only confirm the tenor of the reviews from the last few years.

The place would basically be very interesting. Except for the “banana” (hole 9), I found all the holes very exciting in terms of design. I can't rate hole 8 - it's still being built diligently.

Unfortunately, the condition of all the holes is simply too bad, even after a dry summer. From the tee to the green there is something to complain about.

- The tees are uneven and sometimes have grass that is too long
- The fairways have bare and/or brown spots
- First and second cut sometimes swallow balls
- The bunkers were soaked from irrigation in the morning
- The greens look great and roll well when putting. But if you play the greens high or halfway up, the ball stays put, like on a wet sponge.

We walked the place with an e-trolley and got through in just over three hours. However, things are going up and down ambitiously. A cart is definitely a good idea.

Staff and greenkeepers were very friendly. We can't judge much more than that - we were out and about very early in the morning when there wasn't much activity.

Conclusion: There are equally exciting and much better maintained places in the area.

Place in tag

I've played the course several times in recent years and would have shared the average rating at the time. But this year I noticed a change:
The place is maintained more (e.g. the fairways are sanded more). Hole no. 8 is currently being completely redesigned (you could have noted it online). I also have the feeling that the club management has changed. To the condition: in summer all places have difficulties (except Finca Cortesin). The deductions are okay. Fairways / greens and greens are good! Unfortunately, the very well filled bunkers don't do it justice. As is well known, this is due to the players themselves. The carts run on batteries (unfortunately the motorized ones are not used) and were dirty. You should give the course and the management a chance.

A field

The condition is very bad by Andalusian standards. Price-performance does not go together at all. It's a shame because the layout is very interesting.

Impudently

Today we wanted to play the course with the Albrecht voucher book.
At the reception it was made clear to us in a friendly but clear manner that as a result of Covid-19, a maximum discount of 20%, not 50% as provided in the voucher, would be offered.
From a purely visual point of view, the place does not look very well-kept, so we will refuse the discount offered and will choose another, more well-kept place.

Pretty unkempt

The layout itself would be interesting, unfortunately the maintenance of the site leaves a lot to be desired. As of July: Bunkers full of weeds, fairways partly very patchy and dry, roughs also more brown than green. Greens were very unfaithful due to some bald spots.

Sad

It is sad what has become of a beautiful, well-kept place in the last few years. Although my HCP is low, I needed several balls! Not because the day was not good for me... it is the unsatisfactory quality of the course. The sprinklers also turned themselves off during the game!

Nice place that is getting old

Finally played a nice round. We played it for half the green fee with the Golfhaftet Card, so ok. The course is not worth the full green fee, there are better ones.

The course is not very long, narrow fairways, many sloping positions and very well protected greens are the difficulty here. The medium-fast greens were in a mixed condition.

The driving range was a cheek. It is about 500 m from the square and is very run down with innumerable holes in the mats. The putting green at hole 1 is very tiny, so chipping was not really possible.

Fair and varied

The place was in good condition. Somehow you can see his many years, yet it is a varied, fair and not too difficult golf course. Nice views of the sea included. Buggy recommended due to the height differences.
The only downfall is the building ruins that keep popping up.
We will be back.

Much better than expected

We were there on the first Sunday in March 19, so no construction noise, the distance of the driving range and the necessary access by car are not optimal. Otherwise, the place was in very good condition, the fairways in good condition, the greens good and medium speed. Unfortunately I have my Eagle Putt of 3 meters 50 at hole 10: 247 m about 50 meters downhill, not sunk, but that was neither the black swan who lives there and curiously watched, still in place, but at my nervousness (Eagle putts I have Rare). Even the turtles that jump into the water obstacle when you approach are nice. With Cart, the place is very recommendable, at least on days without construction noise. We played 7 different places in 8 days between Malaga and Estepona which cost more than twice and were only slightly better. So summary: best value for money

Price-performance ratio

Due to the partly bad rating, we were curious how our first round on Estepona Golf will be in November 2017. If you have € 55.00 resp. € 40,00 (price for 20 green fee tickets) paid for a round of golf, then the quality must not be compared with other places around Marbella / Estepona. The place condition is usually better, but the prices are 2 - 3 times higher. Atalaya Old-Course costs € 100.00 and the quality of the fairways is not better. The greens of Estepona Golf are TOP. We were very satisfied with the price / performance ratio.
Here are some suggestions for improvement for the club management:
1. At each tee a well-functioning ball cleaning device with drying cloth.
2. At the tee yellow and red one small waste bin for broken teas.
3. At least 2 non-defective rakes in each sand bunker.
With these small investments, Estepona Golf gets a certain increase in quality right away.

Not sooo bad... but also not top!

Have played the place on July 22,2017. As bad as some others it is definitely not, but there is still a lot of work before the club management. Before: Please avoid the driving ranch!! Is 2 km from the club house and the tea 1 and can not be approached by the buggy. So go back into the car and go there separately... No go!! Fairways partly completely watered... is during the round extremely disturbing... Greens however in the perfect condition... and the panorama very beautiful. The green fee was 55 € plus 30 € Cart appropriate. Would play the place again at any time.

The tracks themselves are okay. But the construction noise. The next area, dirty, unkempt. Not a pretty sight. On the Cartwegen a seat belt would be appropriate. Never again.

Can be better

Based on the positive reviews that the place had improved (entitled "A true gem", "simple but beautiful", "on track"), we decided to try it there. Haircuts and Green were good, there was not a fairway on the first 14 holes. We played on a brown, hard, parched ground, Better Place was possible, however, you had to find a piece of intact lawn downright.
Currently this place is in our view absolutely unplayable, unless you do not want cross-Golf Feeling.

Played on 09/16/2015, Hcp. 30 and 40th

A true gem

Have played the course today and it was a really special experience compared to other places on the Costa del Sol. Super friendly staff in pro shop, restaurant and on the court. Very good rental clubs and overall very fair prices. It's really about to prepare a nice day to guests. At the square you can see the current investment, very beautiful plants and small details. Even turtles in the water hazards. Greens and fairways are in excellent condition. Part challenging, but all in all, a relaxed round. Unlike other courses in the area (eg, a certain links course) interrupted the way the workers their activities when preparing for the blow or has putted. It simply endeavor all. Plus great terrace overlooking the sea.

Simple but beautiful

We have the place six plays and it was fun until the last day. Hilltop reductions have wonderful views, fast greens and strong slopes keep boredom at bay. The course was satisfactory condition for the cheap green fee, however, you can not expect a space as at Valderrama. An e-Cart is recommended in any case.

Space for improvement!

Fairways in poor condition! Where they were not brown and tough as nails, everything was covered with weeds! Greens were fresh and airifiziert anything but tracks properly! Recommended buggy, but these are quite old and vulnerable. For the cheap green fee you can probably expect nothing better. Tracks very often hanging so that the ball often disappears in Niwana. Staff friendly and the clubhouse is okay.

Improvement

Compared to the first visit just over a year, the care of the state space is improved. Very good the greens this year. Finally, the water hazards were again filled with water.

Unbeatable is the price-performance ratio. € 37 for green fee and buggy is so quick to find not back on the Costa del Sol.

However, must necessarily improve the fairways and especially the bunker. This is not a real sand in it, but very coarse-grained sand. Gastronomy is fine (great view).

TOP condition - huge improvement in the last year!

16.04.2014: In January, the place was already very good to play on, the fairways were lush green, because the winter grass has just risen. Now he is in an even better condition with TOP Green `s and fairways, as we have previously not seen it yet. It is gratifying, as the place was improved last year. The price performance ratio is right and the whole staff is extremely friendly and accommodating.

By far the cheapest and friendliest golf course in Costa del Sol.

The greens and layout are Top. I have 10 handicap, I have played it several times and it was always a nice golfing experience!
From my experience, the best place to play in the period from October to April. I think the fairways are winter lawn and of course in the winter in better condition than in summer.
The terrace with view of the Mediterranean is a dream and a great priced menu is also available. Estepona Golf is only recommended!

Poorly-kept golf field

We have played the golf course in September 2013. The place was in a sad state, either dried up or flooded with water. The greens were also dried and covered with weeds. Cart is recommended, as long distances, we were allowed to drive on the fairways.

Scenic, Condition mediocre

Positive note is the beautiful scenery that surrounds the place. So always offer beautiful views of the Costa del Sol or in the mountains.
Is also positive, that is largely dispensed with start times.

But rather mediocre designed the course maintenance. In the fall of 2012, the man-made water hazards were virtually waterless. Instead, they looked at black tarpaulins and other refuse. Reductions also rather suboptimal, fairways and greens but okay.

Since the place is quite hilly, it requires no electronic aids condition!

Estepona Golf - a shame

A year ago we had played in Estepona Golf and were very impressed by the place and its tender. This year we wanted to offer some friends and invited them in Estepona Golf - it was just embarrassing. The place is completely run down and in a very bad state care, the Cartways are partially washed out, the discounts uncut and bumpy, the fairways totally inadequate on the greens to make weed wide. Probably because everyone here will be left on the site, we needed 5! Hours because we had to wait on every tee on any "chickens". The whole unreasonable, the court is in all respects "poor" and not recommended.

Can you play but you do not

We have 14 October 2011 played. Without pending start time we were given a start time 30 minutes after our arrival. Since it was after 13.00 clock we paid for two people including buggy 99, - €. Since you can not complain. The place is located well inland quite well laid out and offers everything needed including a golf course some differences in height, so a cart is recommended. One problem was the maintenance state. Was compared to other places in the region (not compared Valderama is) located in the lower level. If you look at the price you can not complain, but the system has certainly seen better days and is getting on in years. The game mode does not seem to hurt. Despite afternoon was very slow through the round, but as there relatively many pairs Flights preferring to play alone, instead of doing to quads together. Then there are players who want to rejoin after a break at the 10, which does not contribute to the flow of the game. A Marshall is present but does not interfere! The man at the counter was friendly. Some concern are the many signs that you should not leave any valuables in the cart or bag. It seems to be happening already ugly things. Should we again be in the area, we would prefer other places.
