Improved significantly

We have been in Estepona for nine weeks (dec.- feb.) and played on all five courses in the surrounding area. But we prefered to play almost only on Estepona golf course, because it is the one with lush green grass on the course, like we have it in Central European regions in summer. The greens are in good condition and the fairways are juicy green and not earthy, brown or grey. Due to the new ownership, the course-quality, the management and the hospitality improved significantly. The price performance ratio is ok. Congratulation to the new stuff working there! We will be back soon.

We first played EG during Covid- the course and clubhouse were tired, though the welcome was warm. We returned this week having read that a new owner had invested significantly. The clubhouse is now immaculate, serving fairly priced food. The course has really improved, with immaculate greens and pretty good fairways, that are obviously a work in progress in places, but not a distraction. Course was quiet so no issues about pace of play. Hire clubs were of good standard. Another warm welcome from the Spanish staff. Building work is taking place on the perimeters but nothing intrusive. We were delighted the course appears to be resurrecting itself to former glories.

A great layout, its a bit tired in places, bunkers need work, but was warned before play. I enjoyed it and would play it again.

During 2016 we had unbelievable amounts of golfers wanting to play a lot of golf at our club, we have since changed our strategy away from combining green fee golf with memberships which this year has resulted in all of our pay and play clients having the best possible experience (as we no longer have annual members). We have increased tee time intervals to ensure we reduce the amounts of golfers not he course and all of the building work on and around the course is now finished resulting in calm and relaxing playing conditions.

The course has really seen better days, especially with some very questionable fairways. The design of the course is very interesting, it's hard to imagine how the course can be played when everything is in tip top shape here. But I also have to say, you can't get a tea time on the Costa del Sol for less than 100 euros (2 people in a buggy at lunchtime). The employees were also super friendly... We booked the tee time very spontaneously in November 2023 and had a flight to ourselves without any problems.

The first impression upon arrival? An outdated clubhouse, a bit unkempt but very friendly staff in the secretariat.
We went on the tour with e-trolleys. The golf course is obviously under renovation and should be closed temporarily if such serious renovation work is carried out. A relaxed round of golf was out of the question with this constant and massive construction noise. The fairways were very unkempt and literally screamed for water “no fun without grass”.
The greens were again very moist and deep so that the ball often stayed right there and didn't roll out.
Conclusion, this is the most neglected golf course we have ever played in Spain and, at least at the moment, not recommended.

Unfortunately, I can only confirm the tenor of the reviews from the last few years.
The place would basically be very interesting. Except for the “banana” (hole 9), I found all the holes very exciting in terms of design. I can't rate hole 8 - it's still being built diligently.
Unfortunately, the condition of all the holes is simply too bad, even after a dry summer. From the tee to the green there is something to complain about.
- The tees are uneven and sometimes have grass that is too long
- The fairways have bare and/or brown spots
- First and second cut sometimes swallow balls
- The bunkers were soaked from irrigation in the morning
- The greens look great and roll well when putting. But if you play the greens high or halfway up, the ball stays put, like on a wet sponge.
We walked the place with an e-trolley and got through in just over three hours. However, things are going up and down ambitiously. A cart is definitely a good idea.
Staff and greenkeepers were very friendly. We can't judge much more than that - we were out and about very early in the morning when there wasn't much activity.
Conclusion: There are equally exciting and much better maintained places in the area.

Finally played a nice round. We played it for half the green fee with the Golfhaftet Card, so ok. The course is not worth the full green fee, there are better ones.

If you have € 55.00 resp. € 40,00 (price for 20 green fee tickets) paid for a round of golf, then the quality must not be compared with other places around Marbella / Estepona. The place condition is usually better, but the prices are 2 - 3 times higher. Atalaya Old-Course costs € 100.00 and the quality of the fairways is not better. The greens of Estepona Golf are TOP. We were very satisfied with the price / performance ratio.
Here are some suggestions for improvement for the club management:
