Founded in 1910 and designed by J.F. Abercromby, Coombe Hill Golf Club offers one of England's finest traditional parkland experiences. Located in Kingston-upon-Thames, the course is renowned for its lush rhododendrons and majestic trees. It holds a rich history, counting Winston Churchill among its early members and hosting General Eisenhower nearby during WWII. The layout demands precision rather than brute force. A pleasant surprise

Tucked away off the A3 just south of Wimbledon, this is a testing course with a mix of shortish downhill and brutal uphill par 4s (which were also into the wind). The design means that fairways have good separation so no sense of crowding (although we were playing in Christmas week). A generous welcome from all, with the only negative being that the 18th fairway doubles as the driving range which rather takes away from the whole experience, playing one's second shot amidst a collection of range balls.
