Interesting historical golf

Played end of August 2022, HCP 14

This 9-hole course is a classic, old golf course, as it was built around the turn of the century (no, not 2000, but 1900). Some holes are said to be largely preserved in their original layout!

With additional tees on three of the nine holes, you can add a little variety to an 18-hole round.

The facility is located in a beautiful park in the middle of the city (Bremen). As a result, it is unfortunately not really very quiet - especially in the back part of the park, you can hear the heavy traffic on about 3 holes, which is very annoying.

The course certainly no longer meets today's requirements - but it should not be underestimated and is sometimes even quite tricky to play. It's VERY narrow - there's constant accompaniment to the left and right through impressive trees. But no significant rough, little water - if so, then narrow ditches, no expansive ponds, but many bunkers.

The greens are quite slow and, above all, quite small. Hardly undulating - once you have reached the green, there is usually a maximum of a 2-putt - unless the course is quite freshly sanded, as it was on the day of our visit. It's a pity that there was no information about this when booking or checking in for the round.

The other maintenance condition was unfortunately not so convincing. A lot of leaves, twigs, ... on fairways and greens. The deductions were generally very good, even if you had to drive off a mat in the forest. The bunkers, on the other hand, are only below average - simply too little sand in them and extremely dry.

In August, work was also being carried out on new drainage systems. As a result, there were a lot of construction sites on the pitch - there wasn't a lot of work going on everywhere, but it does affect the visual enjoyment if you're constantly playing on a construction site.

The course can also be easily managed on foot by those who are not too sporty - there is nothing else to do, there are no carts. The rental trolley is already included in the green fee!

Conclusion: Definitely play ONCE, wg. history - it's really interesting and you get a sense of what used to be "standard". You certainly don't have to play here again and again, the place isn't good enough for that and it's just too loud, too narrow,... Just 3 stars - for the history and the courage to keep the place like this, even if it's today demands is no longer met. Greatest respect to those responsible for this! (In the "Golf Bear Ranking": 5 out of 10 points.)
