Characteristics

Founded in 1903, Circolo del Golf Roma Acquasanta holds the prestigious title of Italy's oldest golf club. Located along the historic Via Appia Nuova, the course offers a unique blend of sport and archaeology, with the spectacular arches of the Roman Aqueduct visible from the fairways. The 18-hole layout is a classic parkland design that winds through mature pine trees and scenic vegetation. While not excessively long, the course demands technical precision due to narrow fairways and small, well-guarded greens. Water hazards intersect the play on several holes, particularly the tricky 17th. The experience concludes with an uphill 18th hole leading towards the elegant clubhouse and outdoor pool, offering a refined atmosphere for relaxation.

Great course, poor player's behaviour

We played on May 11 2012 in perfect weather and course condition. The fee of 100€ is high though. There are better value/price relations in Rome for instance the magnificent "Parco de' Medici". The reception was snappy and the players on the course snobby. Italien flights of 4 are extremely slow! We agreed with the one in front of us to pass them at a Par 3. With our ball on the green they picked up one of our balls to throw it to us and to command us to persue directly with the next hole without finishing that hole. What a horrible behaviour! My guest from the US was shocked! This ruined his first nine holes. And the management was not willing to listen to our complains. The course itself: many Tee-Offs from plateaus. Great fun to see the ball fly way down the fairway! Perfect fairway condition. Difficult and very fast greens on hills but with little ondulations. It helps to play with a person who knows the course well though: many blind holes with hidden greens. Fantastic trees on the course. Very beautiful. All in all: a fine course but not our first choice in Rome. Besides Parco de'Medici we'd also prefer Olgiata in Rome's North-West. The course is five star. Unfortunately the people were not. We wish you better luck.

The breath of the Eternal City…

…is hovering over this club!
On my fourth attempt, I finally got a tea time for my group of four.
Wow, what a golf course and what a club! The elegance of the capital city is reflected in Italy's oldest course. The expansive fairways wind up and down the hills, offering excellent scoring opportunities. The greens were very good, not quite as firm as at Marco Simone, but true and fair. The individual, enormous pines and cypresses scattered throughout the course provide the expected accompaniment to your round. For me, it's one of the best courses in Italy (147 played). Don't let the green fee deter you; it's worth playing Italy's oldest course at least once. Afterwards, sit on the clubhouse terrace in the sun, and your golfing day is perfect!

Pure rip off…

The golf course has simply doubled its prices around the 2023 Ryder Cup. It was not possible to book online on the homepage (Ryder Cup ban), the massively increased prices were not declared and they were not mentioned when making a reservation by telephone. The “surprise” in the pro shop was even bigger.
But with a bit of glee we were able to note that this rip-off strategy didn't work because the place was more or less empty.
There remains a stale aftertaste :-(
