Characteristics

Albarella Golf Links is known all over the world as 'the course born from the sea'. It was 1972 when John Dering Harris created this course, called 'sea links', by extracting over two million cubic meters of sand from the sea. This process has allowed to obtain an optimal soil drainage in order to ensure the game even in the wetter and rainy seasons.

“I will draw 18 holes near the beach and I will recall the style of the classic Scottish links, the courses built near the sea that have made the history of golf. I will build a course that will marry the best technique to a wonderful landscape. Behold, Scotland with Mediterranean climate" he declared.

And so he did, creating a perfect fusion between the classic British courses and the breathtaking scenery of the Venetian lagoon, where today live several species of wild animals, including fallow deers, hares and pheasants. Here the sea breeze accompanies every swing wrapping the athletes with the typical scents of the beach, giving that extra touch of difficulty to a match and making the challenge even more interesting. The course, a par 72, has a lenght of 6130 m. The club offers also to its vistors a golf academy with the top of technology and a short game area with 3 practice greens and a bunker. The golf facility is open 365 days a year.

Everything is rather simple here

Most of the clubs in this region had closed their courses because they were unplayable. We were very happy that this course was open. It handled the large amount of water over the past two days very well, even though there was still temporary water in many places.

The course has a simple layout, there are no surprises here.

OK, the course is right next to the beach. However, you can't see the Adriatic from anywhere. Apart from that and the wind, this course has very little to do with a typical links course. The course is perfectly flat and very easy to play. You hardly lose any balls, if at all, it's in the water. The bunkers were filled with beach sand, which contains a lot of shells. The greens were in a pretty bad condition today. In several places, the greens had been sprayed to death because of weeds.
The clubhouse exudes the charm of the early 1980s.

100 deer grazed on track 11.

Beautiful Place

We played the course twice in week 34/22 because of the heat in the morning. The course was in good condition thanks to the sprinkler system with treated water. The "herd" does not bother.
The sec. is friendly and speaks English.
The clubhouse is old-fashioned. The gastro is under all canons.
Water from plastic bottles. but 2€ "cover".
4 stars place, 2 stars all around.
Will play the course again when we're back on the island.
