Characteristics

The Levante Course with its characteristic Nicklaus design, is an American styled course with narrow fairways, exquisitely shaped greens and is more than 6,612 metres in length with stunning views over the Mediterranean Sea and the Sierra de Finestrat.Because the course is not located within any urban development you can enjoy the golf in completely natural surroundings with constant views of the sea and of the mountains.

The Poniente Course: executive and par 62 is 3,858 metres in length and is located on the hill side of a Mediterranean pine forest with views over the sea and the mountains. Its design provides a great golfing experience for all

types of players independent of their handicap.Although shorter it is still exciting. It requires skill from short irons and is demanding for a player with a low handicap, although all the holes offer alternatives for medium and high handicapped players.

Poor Staff and Badly Managed Golf Complex

Villaitana golf has staff that are extremely unwelcoming and rude. Rules seem to vary depending who you talk to or what mood they are in.
There is a major lack of customer priority and attitudes are abismal.

The practice facility and quality is one of the poorest I have used in Spain. Matting, grass and balls are of the lowest standard.

I notice many have the same unacceptable experiences with golf staff, all this encourages golfers not to return or recommend this golf complex.

Sunday morning stroll on the Poniente Course

Played the Poniente Course on a sunny Sunday in early March. Play was smooth and we completed the round in 3h 15min. Poniente is the shorter par 62 course with mostly par 3 holes. All par 4 holes are reachable from the tee for the more experienced player. The terrain is very hilly. Therefore, a cart is a must.

Even though the course is short, not an ideal course for a beginner because of the challenging tee shots. On some holes the first shot must carry atleast 100 m.

+ Nice views
+ Fast greens
+ Fairways in great shape
+ Interesting layout

- Ground under repair around the greens on many holes
- Unfixed pitchmarks on greens
- Rather short
- No back tees set up (suitable tee boxes do exist)

Both Courses

Played both courses in October.
The short course is good fun to play with interesting short holes, but the Championship course was very disapointing.
The bunkers have had no work on them for a good while leaving them looking scruffy and unplayable at times. The greens were in very poor condition. A 30 foot putt needed almost a three quarter back swing with the putter.
The facilities at the complex are first rate, but they need to get the Golf courses up to a similar standard to attract people back.
