Of the dozen golf courses we played in Cornwall, I liked Golf Resort St. Mellion, near Plymouth, the best. The fairways are lined with grand estates. The resort is a little over 50 years old, and the signature course was designed by Jack Nicholas. When booking, I was a bit too ambitious: of course, we wanted to play the championship course. I lost three balls right on the first hole. I hadn't listened to what the starter had said. If you didn't choose your targets correctly and then hit them precisely, your balls were almost always gone. They often disappeared into a creek that accompanied us repeatedly.
