Characteristics

Royal Troon's Old Course is one of the great links courses in Scotland. The Old Course is a challenging test of golfing ability. With the wind to contend with, and deep rough interspersed with gorse and broom, accurate shot making is essential. Players should make their scores on the outward nine, as the prevailing north-westerly wind can make the back nine extremely difficult.

Royal Troon's Portland Course is shorter & friendlier than the Old, but still a true links challenge. Designed by the Troon professional Willie Fernie, winner of the Open Championship in 1883, the Portland Course was opened in 1895 and subsequently redesigned by Dr Alister MacKenzie in the early 1920’s. The Portland is a little more sheltered than the Old Course and, of course, shorter. The holes meander through terrain filled with gorse and broom with a generous helping of Par 3's and Par 5's.

Pure golf history

Undoubtedly a great link with open history.
Friendly reception and a missed tee time due to flight cancellation was arranged easily and free of charge.
The clubhouse exudes history and is not as remote as, for example, Muirfield (you are allowed in!) There is no need to discuss the quality of the fairways and greens.
But the unspoilt nature of the dunes and sea views cannot match Western Gailes.
The only downside is the exorbitant green fee of GBP 315.00

Open feeling

Troon is a very beautiful and challenging open links course.
The front nine lanes in particular are really strong and the 18 towards the clubhouse is pure open feeling!

A Picture Book Links Course! Goose bumps!

Royal Troon 25.04.2019

Fairways, always along the beach, as fast as elsewhere, not even the greens. Deep pot bunkers everywhere and framed by old mighty yellow-flowered broom bushes.
The wind comes into play powerfully and sometimes a blind tee shot is required.

In foursome flight, accompanied by four caddies of the club, and pushed by the ideal golf conditions and the flair of a place where so many great golfers have run, our swing is somehow easier and our game more beautiful than anywhere else. That's how we feel on this particular round, almost as if we ourselves were the players at an Open.
Goose bumps!

After the round, the historic club rooms promise awe-inspiring reverence for a lunch under the royal gaze of the Queen's portrait, allowing them to be part of the tradition of this ancient golf club.

A golfing experience that we are sure we will remember for a long time
