Characteristics

Situated on the rugged coast of southwest Scotland, Portpatrick Dunskey Golf Club offers a year-round golfing experience thanks to the temperate Gulf Stream climate. The club features two distinct layouts: the 18-hole Dunskey and the 9-hole Dinvin. Perched 150 feet above sea level, the courses blend rolling moorland with seaside heath, providing spectacular views across the North Channel to Ireland and the Isle of Man. The Dinvin offers a challenging par-3 links-style test, while the clubhouse complements the experience with panoramic windows overlooking the picturesque terrain.

Beautiful cliff-top golf course with lots of wind

First of all, I liked having to take the strong wind into account. The course is quite short, so that a long iron is sufficient for the tee on many par 4 holes. Even after misses from the tee, the green is often still possible in regulation. The first 5-6 holes go back and forth parallel to the coast, so you can quickly get used to the wind direction. There were only a few tracks with full headwinds and tailwinds.
As the rough is mostly mowed there is ample room to 'spread' so despite the wind the difficulty wasn't very high with some blind shots adding to the tension.
But there are wonderful views over the cliffs, all in all a successful holiday morning( it only took 2:30 hours alone, although finding your way around and adjusting to the wind also take time.
For those who are not very good on foot: some strenuous climbs may make a buggy seem sensible. 4 stars because the place was fun, even if the greens don't quite meet Scottish standards in my opinion. A little too long (because of the wind?) and didn't always run faithfully.

A real task

Super place, just above on the coast with some terrific views. Hard because many blind beats. Wind is a big job and it always blows fats. Simple clubhouse but everything necessary available.
