Characteristics
Both courses, Vale da Pinta and Quinta do Gramacho are situated in the vicinity of Carvoeiro in a very scenic location. Vale da Pinta is a championship-course, which despite of the high standard can be enjoyed by players of different strengths. The Gramacho Course is with its 27 greens unique on the European continent and one of the few in the whole world with 18 teens, 27 greend and only 18 fairways.

Course for a hole in one

Thought the Gramacho course was very challenging which made it even better thanit looked stunning views very well kept for the beginning of January, all helped by a teriffic hole in one on the Tenth hole, 147 yards stepped up 7 iron in hand played to slight slope at right of green which run onto the green and fell in the hole amazing.

Both places are recommendable, but I preferred Pinta.
Pinta: Superb layout; the beautiful and varied fairways wind through hilly terrain. Fairways are excellent, bunkers are great to play, and greens are fast and well-undulated. The only downside is the relatively long walk from the 18th green to the clubhouse.
Gramacho: also hilly with a very nice layout. Well-maintained course, with extremely fast and very hard greens. Some of the greens slope very steeply; it often happened that you couldn't get the ball to stop while putting and then had a 20-meter chip shot from the fairway.
There was even a putt into the water. Some of the pin positions were a bit borderline!

I can only agree with the previous comment regarding Gramacho and Vale da Pinta. It's unimaginable what happened there, and yet it's still a perfect course to play on. Huge respect to the workers. I can't resist one small criticism, though: €50 for the buggy. But on vacation, so what?
