Lovely golf & facilities

Our Society have played here three times now and have never been disappointed. None of your usual drive and wedge so familiar on the Algarve. Par 3 holes with SI 7,9,11 & 14 mean good mid iron shots required. The cuisine & service is that of what you'd expect from a Meridien hotel so all in all well worth a visit! Represents really good value compared to some it's over rated comparators... we will go for a fourth time next time in Portigal!

Consequence of the above assessment

And add the old flair from days gone by in a positive way.
The course may have become too short for today's professional golf, but it is fun for normal consumers

Better than expected

My wife and I played the course 4 times.
Many people write here about a lack of space maintenance. That's true in many things too. The paths, bridges etc. have certainly seen much better days.
The fairways are in very usable condition. At least at the beginning of March. The transitions into the rough aren't always that clean, but this is just a tourist spot with no sporting ambitions.
The bunkers, on the other hand, were always well prepared. The operator cannot correct what the flights do during the round.
The greens were really fast and undulating every day. With late start times, it's better to have 3 pitchforks with you, but that's the case at almost every place with predominantly tourist flights.
The best thing, in my opinion, is the design.
Obstacles so perfectly designed that strategy often comes before length.
You can tell that the place was once a really top place.
For today's lengths, a little too short to reach tour standards.
In any case, we felt very comfortable, even if we had to sacrifice a few balls to the omnipresent water god.

Best time behind

Place played on 3/21/2023 State Fareways and Green could be better.
The par 73 18-hole course would actually be very interesting. Precise play is required on some narrow, non-curving lanes, otherwise you have to look for the balls between the trees.
Unfortunately, the surprisingly well-occupied course was not particularly well maintained, the bunkers had undergone mechanical processing for what felt like the last month. The resort is still alive from the 1998 Portugal Open and seems to have stayed put...

We are glad you found our Championship course challenging.
Your notes toward the course were registered with our greenkeepers- kindly note, we have since acquired a new rough mower.

Rather slightly below average place

Due to the large number of great golf courses in the Algarve, I can't really recommend this course. The condition can not keep up with the other places. The course design is quite nice, and the course is also playable on foot. All in all, the entire facility is very old. The hotel/clubhouse looks very old. The driving range is unbelievably unkempt, the range balls look like they were handpicked by Sir Henry Cotton. The green fee of 126 (October 2022) is too high for that. If you can play the course for less green fee (voucher cards or similar), you can visit it.

Bad meadow

This is by far the worst-maintained course that we played here this year (Nov. 2020).
Should have paid attention to the other reviews and shouldn't have played here.

Championship - shit

We have been to this place x times.
Unfortunately, the quality decreases year after year.
At the moment the place is in a state that would not even inspire to go hiking.
What is the difference between semi raff - rough - fairway? Answer found in this place. None!
Regardless of the price in winter € 85.
In our view it is among the top 5 worst places at the moment.
Too bad the layout would be nice and interesting.

Mediterranean parkland course

A classic Mediterranean parkland course, beautifully open, with palm trees, lots of birds and sky divers circling the square. We played the course in September 2019 and had a very varied and fast lap. Fairways, bunkers and greens were in top condition. All tracks are relatively flat, there are several Wasserhindnerisse and the greens are well defended by bunkers. A nice day of golf!

Altehrwürdig

Old or old. The place urgently needs a refresher. Is no longer competitive with the other places in the West Algarve. Care condition corresponds to upper standard.

Very British is doing quite well

The course and the resort are good without being very special. You are almost entirely surrounded by the British. The place was in a decent but not sensational state. The resort is an old British style hotel. But it is well maintained and the staff is friendly. The place is not that easy to play, but not unfair. Greens were ok, too, but not outstanding. When you play for the first time, it is not so easy to read. All in all, a good round

Careless but nice.

Nice course. good design. poorly kept and maintained in August 2016.
Greens uncut and dilapidated areas falling ball leafy... etc...
People in these fields do not usually give way to players, and should stay a marshall for celerar game and make the standards are met.
Bad bunkers and each of a different... hard, soft way, muddy, little or much sand...
Demanding if you play from white. not for long, which in some holes if... but more technical.

A little disappointed

Today I, the 11/18/2015 in beautiful weather played the Championship Course. I do not know how the place condition in spring or summer but today he was not comfortable in the sense of Henry Cotton. Fairway partly mowed the extent of the blank ball lay on the ground. The created water hazards were sheer aquatic plants hardly recognizable as such. Hole 13 of the 500 most beautiful par 3 was perhaps Henry Cottons times. The greens were apparently äerifiziert fresh, plenty of sand has the putt already leave something to be gambling. Although the need from time to time be but to most places you pay a reduced green fee then. Out of Penina. Otherwise, the place is spacious, wide fairways, bunkers from time to time come into play and large greens. Club secretariat bit annoyed, not overly friendly. However Starter friendly. All in all I had gone through my nice English / Scottish Flight Partners a nice round. Have learned the place now know, but would rather play safe again other places in the Algarve.

Very British

So one imagines a classic English garden. Old trees with low-hanging branches. Flat sheets and kept greens. The numerous bunkers off the tee are always in the way, and here and there a creek crosses the tracks. Quite different from Gramacho or Espiche, but also a bit intimidating. The trappings typically English. As the adjacent Hotel Le Meridien, also the GF shows very noble: 2 players with buggy for € 160 PS: Regards to the Butler on the men's room, the reverend has shown me the way to the throne :).

A MUST

We were there in Nov. 2011, great hotel in the English style, the whole complex is very well maintained and spacious, NO PE necessary to resort and Academy! Large pool, children's entertainment, restaurants, pro shop, 3 good coaches with knowledge of German, tennis courts, jogging track, spa facilities, private beach - really all there. The seats are well maintained, wide fairways, many bunkers, a little water is also present. Only recommended!
