Dissatisfied customer

Very unhappy, live on the algarve, golf course is overrated, and overpriced. I have played here three times and never again. Each game I played took far too long, with constant hold ups through slow play in front. The marshals serve no purpose, and do not encourage slow groups to increase there pace. On several tees people are selling lost golf balls, which should not be allowed on the course. The course is looking tired, fairways bare, tees not in good condition. Espiche is far better, and more cost effective.

Good place, current condition poor

All in all, the place is great in terms of design. 3 9-hole loops that can be combined in different ways.

However, the condition was not good enough. The greens had extremely bare spots and the fairways were too dry. As compensation, you received a soft drink from the mobile food truck. That's nice, but a significant reduction in the green fee would be appropriate.

If the place is back in top condition, it will be close to 5 stars. So it's too expensive

Bad condition of the place

This place is far from worth the price in this condition. Apparently there are problems with water management, problems that do not exist on neighboring courses in the region such as Espice or Boavista. The greens are full of holes and putting is a matter of luck. Under these conditions the place is not worth visiting. It's a shame, because the setting of the trains is actually interesting.

Great view but poor condition

We played the course in 10/2023. When you arrive you say wow! The clubhouse is great, great views of the sea.
However, the pitch is dry and the ball rolls uncontrollably into the bushes, especially with so many sloping positions. Some of the greens are already broken.
You can understand that there is no water, but the condition is not mentioned when booking and the full green fee is still charged. That is not OK!

Something for everyone

Palmares has 3 quite different places that can be easily combined. We didn't like the links course by the sea that much because it was already very dry. (But the club can't do anything about that, since the water is primarily allocated to the farmers by the authorities, as a marshal explained to us) But there are great views of Faro on the 1 and the 9. A railway line crosses the square that meanders along the sea. However, the train frequency is very low and not a problem!
Overall, we liked the other two places a little better. With lots of hills and sloping fairways, however, the fairways can be a bit unpredictable at times, at least for a flatlander from the north.
The front desk is a bit grumpy and a smile wouldn't be overkill. Caddy Master was very friendly, e-karts in good condition. The Gastro offers a beautiful view of the sea and Faro on the terrace after the round.

Wonderful views

We played the Praia and Alvor courses on March 23,2023.
The 9 holes of Praia run along the sea and correspond to a links course. Unfortunately, the path to the next hole is not advertised at the end of the hole and therefore often causes confusion. Some of the bunkers are simply filled with beach sand and are very special to play.
Alvor's 9 holes were absolutely phenomenal. Spectacular view from above towards the sea (4 / 5 and 6) We will definitely play this course again on our next visit to the Algarve!

A nice day with a bad finish

The fact that the facility is still under construction on January 4th, 2023 is not a problem.
The place is beautiful. Very good greens everything 1a.
Restaurant view 1a staff very friendly.
The only flaw that causes me to never play this place again!
On arrival, perhaps due to construction, there are no signposted parking spaces.
It's not a problem, there's an underground car park under the clubhouse. However, what happens if you no longer have the P-ticket cannot be topped in terms of arrogance and unfriendliness.
We don't care that we then have to pay 8€ afterwards.
Sorry without me...!!!

Beautiful places - sometimes long distances

The resort's golf courses are very well maintained, the Praia course was still a bit brown, but if it's not allowed to water in summer, that's the way it is.
However, the start times of 8-9 minutes do not fit into the course design for a start at T1 and T10, because 2-3 flights are waiting very quickly at the following hole.

Basically, the way to the range or T 19 is very long, the range is good for warming up, but not well suited to improve your game. Overall, the resort could certainly have been designed with shorter distances and more compact.

Negative: The construction site opposite the clubhouse, rarely seen such horrid apartments.

Disappointed with Palmares

1.) Internet booking 103.-, but direct booking at golf reception 117.- and the receptionist communicated that in an unfriendly manner.
2.) We had to tee off from hole 10 without an explanation, holes 10 to 18 met our expectations, holes 19 to 27 in a very poor condition and connecting paths completely inadequate (gravel and very dusty) 3.) Ladies toilet on this day (24/09/2021) unreasonable, completely dirty and unhygienic.
Never again.

Great great great

An absolute must if you come to golf in the Algarve. We played Praia first and then Alvor. Praia is a links course that is a bit unusual. The rough is fair and good strokes are generally not penalized. Alvor is a feast for the eyes. Three lanes downhill with a view of the lagoon, simply fantastic. The tees like painted, the fairways lush and green and the greens completely flawless. You usually only see such places on the tour. The summer green fee was more than adequate. € 76 including buggy!

Lagos Course in October

I only played 9 holes Lagos Course, which is in perfect shape in October. Exciting landscaped space with excellent views of the lagoon and the sea. The resort is extremely well maintained; certainly perfected with a new clubhouse. The price is a bit borderline especially in October; for the nice lady in the golf shop on the quite "cheap" Twilight offers from 14.00 o'clock pointed out.

Demanding and hilly

In September 2019 we played Alvor and Lagos this 27-hole course. Both are demanding and hilly. Nice tees overlooking the sea. The condition was great. The bar is very simple. All in all OK.

5-star., What else?

Overall good overall condition, unfortunately, there are always areas next to the fairways, which look like construction sites. Unfortunately, the terrain is not finished yet. but you can see this in Portugal again and again.
The greens were in very good condition and could often be well played from outside with the partner.
Our favorite was the order Praia (19) and Lagos (10). The link course is sensational and allows incredibly long strikes.
All in all a pleasure to experience this place.
The clubhouse is insufficient, but now a really chic building is built, you can be curious. We were in the hotel, so the drink afterwards on the terrace with a fantastic view of the square could be taken.

Great golf course, great environment

The golf course currently only has a prov. Clubhouse with adventurous loungers. A shower and wardrobe for men and women. Somehow special. The place Alvor then compensates the whole thing. The nine holes Praia Lagos are average. Care condition good

A feast for the eyes

The course is in top condition with lightning fast greens. Very varied fairways with fantastic views. Is also good to do with push trolley. Only the way to the valley to the driving range unnecessary. The CLUBHOUSE is currently not adequate, but you also come to play golf. And that was great!

Nice, good view

We played Alvor and Lagos on 23.02.19. Buggy bar we have seen at least twice. Clubhouse ok; unfortunately not the great view as from the old place. If necessary, the terrace in the hotel (100m away from the parking lot) can be used. But restoration available and open with us.
Space is already very dry; but the greens are great and fast. Unfortunately, we ended up behind a group of 12 people; the Marshalls have made every effort. Still went through in 4h10; course slow for two, but for the 4-er flights forward the time was ok. The place can not do that.

Hammer Square

I played the course for the first time in February 2019 and was totally impressed by the place: we started tea 19 and then had a perfect links course right in front of us. 30 meters before the start of the green, get out the putter and let the ball run already makes mood. I do not know any other place on the Algave that offers this. Later it went to the 1-9, from the fairway condition still left-character, the fairways but now framed by trees instead of dunes.

Disturbing for me, the locals have offered their collected balls for sale at almost every tea box (tip: on the later tracks are the cheaper) and the clubhouse, in which the Gastro unfortunately was closed. But here the new building 2020 is to be opened. Also a buggy bar was missing.

Beautiful views, varied layout but inappropriate price-performance ratio

We have been playing the course for over 8 years and we like it again and again in view of the varied layout and the beautiful sea views.
This time, however, we have to say that 99 EUR pp (and without buggy!) In view of the below-average care condition (especially the greens are consistently in a rather poor condition!) Are not appropriate - I must clearly contradict previous speakers.
The other places nearby (eg Espiche) can do much better, partly with cheaper green fees.

Perfect condition and great looks

We played the course in July 2018 in the combination Lagos and Praia. We can not judge the other nine holes Alvor. From the combination played we liked the part of Lagos better. It is more in the upper part of the square and you have just from almost anywhere beautiful views of the lagoon or the open sea. Simply beautiful and one forgets to play in the pure almost golf.
You fairways are wide enough and everything is in great condition. Characteristic of the deductions. We have probably never seen such quality. The lower nine holes of the Praia are a left course, which was also very nice. However, we liked the part of Lagos better because it has more to offer visually more. We rented a cart here in midsummer, which seems quite sensible due to the sometimes very long paths between the holes, especially in summer.
The green fee, we paid 150 euros for two people with Cart, is certainly not cheap, but for the space and the addition quite appropriate.
We would like to play the course again at any time, but rather in the combination of Alvor / Lagos, as we enjoy the views from the top of the sea and the lagoon.
The rest of the staff was always super friendly, with the exception of the bartender on the golf terrace, who did not seem to want much.
In conclusion, absolutely great worthwhile golf course in the Algarve.

Great place

Have played the course several times and always find it nice and varied. The view of the bay of Alvor / Lagos is fantastic! The place condition was perfect. The reception at the front desk is friendly and courteous. But: Unfortunately unfriendly service in the restaurant, lack of supply and massive renovation needs in the toilets! Therefore at least one point deduction.

Again absolutely top!!!

After playing Lagos & Praia 3 years ago, we played Alvor & Praia this time.
Palmares is the only course in the Algarve that has real left holes (20-26) with the Praia Course! These are super tricky and were created by Robert Trend Jones jun. once conjured to the Atlantic.
The Alvor course offers wonderful views of the bay, the sea and the hinterland. Golfers are the "old" Alvor trains a real dream! For me, Palmares, with Monte Rei, San Lorenzo, Val de Lobo Royal and Villamoura Old, belongs to the best the Golf in the Algarve has to offer...!
Easter Special 75, - € per person incl. Car!
For this place a bargain ... !!!

Great!

I (bogey player) played holes 10-27 (Lagos and Praja) in mid-December. The condition of the course was very good for the season (fairways and greens). As a guest of the boutique hotel "on site", the green fee is moderate. Overall, a great mix of left and open parkland course. It's always fun to play a high quality design (Trent Jones Jr.).

Top place, everything else flop!

I played the course on Thursday, November 24,2016 in the combination Lagos and Praia. The receptionist is friendly and helpful. The training infrastructure is good, but with the exception of the driving range, unfortunately, not well maintained. The rest of the infrastructure such as Club House, restaurant and so on is quite simply bad and unappetizing. Here you wear things obviously do not care what is really a pity. The Caddy Master is already in the morning tired and lets me do everything himself, but looks to me like to... The starters, however, is helpful and nice. The course is varied, difficult because fast fairways and even faster, hard greens. A beautiful links course with good qualities and great fairways on the part of Praia along the sea. The railway runs through rarely and does not interfere. On the tee boxes often miss ball washer with water (without benefit of nothing !!), towels, benches, litter bins, fairway panel. The place deserves my opinion, a good and should be played. The rest you can forget. Therefore, a total of only average. Too bad that people here are obviously have no passion and no professional pride at work.

Expensive and poor maintenance condition

At 105 EUR sure an expensive place, which is his claim but not fair in relation to care and facilities. Fairways and bunkers in poor condition, as well as charts and trolleys. From the Dixi toilets on the round not to mention. The clubhouse is old and rundown, total convinced the place is not what is not because of its wonderful location and the attractive design but at its unkempt impression.

Good layout, little comfort

The place has potential are among the best courses in the Regionzu. The layout is varied, beautifully landscaped, partly challenging and physically demanding. In particular, the Railways 1-18 who are more hilly and sometimes very long. In the heat it can be really exhausting because uphill already. Unfortunately, there are few opportunities to get drinks because during the round, the clubhouse is always high on the railways and in a pinch is there too little time. What stands out are largely missing benches between the fairways, if one is there, they can hardly be used. Unless you want to continue playing with a few splinters of wood in the ass.
The fairways were in mid-October well maintained, the greens despite rains in advance quickly and on track. Exciting and scenically exceptional are the hard fairways of holes 19-27 oceanfront. Flat and typical links course layouts. And where else, the railway runs through the middle of the golf course.
Beautifully the view from the clubhouse terrace. The compensation for the physical effort after the game to come back.
Service of the staff is friendly but overall a little sleepy.
All in all a good place with potential if funds for infrastructural improvements can be provided.

Fantastic place

We played the combination Lagos / Praia. Super nice place, very well maintained. Buggy is recommended to enjoy the game because of the long distances and height differences. Very friendly staff. The somewhat outsourced driving range needs to be revised, but that was already in the works. Highly recommended.

Beautiful place - Delay of game, no Marshall in sight!

Dear golfers, I have played the course in early October. The course was in good condition and the greens are very fast. The round started with me my Löchern19-27 (left) in the dunes. Of the topography nothing special. It goes back and forth along the dunes.
The view across the area is really nice and makes it out towards the sea to play. Exact match is required, because the place has a lot Buschwerg. The fairways are extremely hard! The holes 1-9 to go around the mountain. For me, the nicer part because he also has some great views and is well laid out. The bunkers defending very well the greens.
All in all a great day when the round was not infinitely long. Ahead of four more fights that have explored every corner of the square, and have been much time left. But going on vacation before. Have fun playing!

Fantastic location near the sea

In February 2013 I have played the course 3 times and was able to play all 27 holes. Hole 1 to 18 are applied to a mountain, and from time to time to play in the sea and can then enjoy the great view. Fairway in very good condition and the greens a challenge. The holes 19 to 27 are then directly behind the dunes to the sea. Fairways hard and there you have to go ran very emotional. Just beat it can quickly mean the ball lands in one of the bushes. These holes are very different than the first 18, but also its charm.
Very nice and friendly team on the court, shop and restaurant. If you are in Lagos, then you should definitely play there. I can only recommend Buggy! ;-) More pictures and information can be found in my golf blog at:

Slowly and close the left course

The place is completely rebuilt. Thus, the holes of 1-18 still some potential as forgiveness, this is from the latest in hole 19-27 (left course) abruptly ended when one does not einschätz the place and the location of the many islands clean bush or knows where it goes through the lost ball high.
The greens were very fast and dis fairwais very hard so the ball can easily go into the bushes even with a clean drive. Here would be softer greens, especially in the slopes desirable.

Super palmares

I have played the course 3 times this year already. The nine tracks on the beach are designed as a left-course. The course is in top condition, after all construction work has been completed on the site. The new clubhouse and the hotel will probably only be built if Portugal is back out of the crisis! But the place is great!

Poor value for money

Several years ago, we have already played the course and it was quite impressed. Now the path leads over long distances through quasi "sites" and many fairways are in poor condition. Because of the construction, there are often long distances between green and next tee and the signs and the description of the course of the fairways is deficient or absent. The place may well be quite well again after completion, but is now a green fee of EUR 80, - not justified.

Top place for the future

The old 18-hole course Palmares is converted into a 27-hole facility, currently (turn of the year 2010/11) 18 not contiguous holes playable, but already an experience to play down to the sea or in the Links Course manner along the sea. play on the weekend, then it bypasses the construction noise. This is perhaps the best place in the Algarve. a real alternative to Vale do Lobo and Vilamoura.
