Disapoiting course

Played the 9 hole course (Grand Duc). It was the worse course I have played to date. There is no clear path between the orders of the holes. Many players were simply lost. I did not find the 7th tee and gave up. Besides, the course gives the impression of not being mainteined, at all. Filthy greens and very bumpy fairways.
Not worth spending 35€.

Nice 18 - Calamitous 9

While the 18 holes is very nice and worth being played, the 9 holes (Grand Duc) is the worst 9 holes I have ever played.

It is in bad conditions, the course takes you to unwelcome parts of the golf and some holes are more pitch & put holes than true 9 holes.

To play 9 holes, I would advise to go to La Provencale (Biot).

Conclusion : the 18 holes definitely, the Grand Duc never again!

An old club for older golfers.

A flat, treelined course, too short to be enjoyed by others than elderly golfers, thus only one rating star. The old, charming club house and, not to forget, the precense of the crossing of a channel by a hand operated ferry yields the second rating star.

Could be a great course...

Been playing this course during winter months for the past five years and each year both the nine hole and eighteen hole courses are getting worse in terms of course condition and care. The green keepers seem to spend all their time caring for the new nine hole pitch and put course. The grand duc (9 hole) is in a desperate condition. The green keepers obviously take no care of this course with several greens having tyre marks were the keepers have just driven across the greens! Then they have the cheek to charge 50 euros to play this course. It is such a shame as this could be a great course if only it was given the attention.

Disappointed

Played here sevearal times when on holiday. The local course of Victor Dubousson. However, though the course is in a picturesque setting it is sadly lacking in care, the bunkers poor maintained, little amount of sand, quality of sand poor, and not raked. The fareway grass is cut very short almost a bald lie and the greens are left with pitch marks. However, the reception staff are excellent. The food is very good and the terrace is lovely to dine on. This could be a stunning exceptional course if only more attention and care was given to course maintenance. Green fee prices are fair.

Grand Duc review

It s an executive course not well kept. The facility of the course are charmingly d'antan and the Old Course looks certainly better.

Price-performance ratio a disgrace

Price-performance ratio is a disgrace. With the best will in the world, the place isn't worth €130. Boring design, one track like the other, without any highlights. Tees totally broken.
There were six of us playing, we had previously booked a package of 5 plus a single green fee (then 520€ + 130€ = 650€, instead of the regular 780€). On site we were told that the 5-package would not be applicable on Thursdays, since lunch on Thursdays would be included in the (regular) price. Any argument with the ladies in the office is pointless. We were definitely here for the first and last time. Then it's better to drive an hour more and visit the beautiful Golf Taulane for just €85.
One star because you can't give zero here...

A disappointment

Beautiful old English clubhouse. But that's it. The place is maintained mediocre, but has no highlights. All flat, wide fairways without any challenge, finely ground earth in the bunker instead of sand, no distance information (if you come without GPS or the like, you are pretty lost) and noise from traffic and businesses all around. The only thing that is nice is the many pine trees that line all the fairways. A small ferry takes you twice across a canal. The price is too high for what is offered. We played with rental clubs and received ancient sets. Cleveland iron, completely unknown brand of wood, the driver was unusable. The price was too high for that too. Nevertheless: If you spend a few days on the Côte d'Azure, you can treat yourself to a day of golf for a change. But I would definitely choose a different place. E.g. Saint Donat.

Top place!!!

During our visit, the ancient pine course in Cannes was very well maintained!
The old clubhouse and the 18-hole fairway are the first impressions upon entering. The 5th oldest place in France from the pen of the legendary Harry S. Colt, has so much atmosphere and flair that for me it can only give the full number of points!
Huge bunker landscapes, mighty pine trees, fast greens and the ferry ride - just perfect! Booked through Provencegolf, then the price is right! The food after the round was excellent too!

Like so much on the Côte d Azur….

... Moderate quality for a top price….
The reception is pretty snooty, I shouldn't have asked about lake balls. The cheapest available balls cost 3 € / piece. A set of rental clubs costs 50 €, but you get a set of Taylor Made, at least 6 years old, rather older. The trolley is more like 16 years old. After I didn't accept that, I got a brand new set XXIO, which was great of course.
Now to the course: that it is short, given that it is free, you knew that it was loud due to the close proximity to traffic, no surprise either, but: the T-boxes were sanded, uncut and extremely uneven, fairways ok, greens very soft and partly neglected.
Clubhouse elegant and high quality.
The bottom line is an interesting experience, but not a second time...

In dignity aged with patina

A place as it was once built, located on the edge of a residential area in Cannes, close to traffic between the airport and the railway line; for the accoustic background is taken care of.
The place is short, a bit narrow and especially for seniors, be it in the region or tourists very popular and very busy in the season. You should bring time. So you used to build golf courses; very interesting to play such a place left almost in the original state. The main youth brand of the little Proshop does not want to fit the average age of the players. From the terrace you have a nice view of the 18 and the events that happen occasionally on the small upstream water.
The place is definitely worth a journey into the past. Overall, there is the right golf course for every taste in the region and that's nice.

... the first on the Mediterranean coast...

... a Russian - Grand Duke Michael of Russia - built together with Harry S Colt - a very big number in golf course construction - the first golf course - the 9 Holes Grand Duc - opened in 1891.
In the early 1920s, Harry Colt built the Old Course, one of more than 300 in his time, and he has modified more than 100.

He can be found in the Top 100 for years in the first 50 years.

The score card promises a relaxed round, as the holes are not so long. The many big, old pines make these narrow and heavy.
Since Targetgolf is mandatory to bring a good score in the clubhouse. If you are on the wrong side, you record a loss of impact. Except for 2 holes the driver had a break.
The fact that you have to cross the Siage several times by ferry makes this course even more special.

Even the Grand Duc is harmless on paper.

It's great to play in such old, unadulterated places, they should be listed.

The clubhouse also fits - another generation - perfect.

The noise is decent, the railway, the roads and the nearby Aéroport Mandelieu are responsible.

No idea how many times we've been here - the notes from our first visit date back to the 90s.

Again great fun.

Definitely worth a round!

Today I played a round on the Old Course with my wife accompanied by two club members! Just wonderful and very interesting. Exceptional trees, very well-kept overall impression - simply recommended without restrictions.
Also the pro shop and the restaurant are great!
Once we are close again, we will play another round!

Robert Trent Jones There's not much left to say

I have already played some of his courses and this one is no different. As short of space is so difficult to navigate between the old building stock and the well-placed bunker. Proshop and restaurant are by far the best in the region. Greens was very good considering how crowded the place is. My only criticism would apply to the starter who unfortunately does not understand if you stick to the tee times, that the round runs faster. Unfortunately we waited almost every 5th from the 5th hole. This is a must place to play. Nothing for beginners would be too frustrated.

Vintage golf

The golf course has fallen a bit out of time. It feels like 80 years ago. A quite interesting place, allergings totally overrun. The crossing by ferry is without a doubt a highlight. We (Hcp 12 and 17) have enjoyed the place.

History faded

The course is quite narrow, the courses are close together, the condition is in order. When we played, the place was crowded, we had to wait at every tea and on the fairways. Noise is available from many sources, roads, airplanes, trains and craftsmen in the surrounding properties provide for almost permanent sound reinforcement. Our conclusion: not again, there are in the surrounding area too many good alternatives.

Great boat trip

We, both Hcp. 10, have played the pitch on 18.9.2017. There is no water hazards, only bunkers, trees, flight and car noise. The place was in quite good condition. Cool was the ferry ride. But the paths are the same. Flat parking area. Very attentive staff.

Hold a classic

With own cool character. Clearings in the pine forest, totally flat, harmless bunker. According because surrounding streets and the flight path to a business airport. Funny, the ferry including Kiosk between web 2 and 3 and 12 and 13. Everything was well maintained. And: The clubhouse terrace overlooks the fairway of the web 18, but not just on the green. In the Haute-Vollée the previous turn of the century it was probably not out to present the Endblamage public.
Driving range had to unfortunately, but appears as "Academy" to be very lavish. Pro shop only had clothes to offer, but it the full Adidas / Ashworth selection, all embroidered with the club logo, at reasonable prices. Changing rooms were trés de 1891. Restaurant closed again in the evening. Members seemed very confident (Victor Dubuisson plays for this club), but not unfriendly. Was a total pleasant change.

Very well maintained for the price

Actually a very beautiful place with very varied holes. But the poorly maintained bunkers and greens with countless pitch marks should not be, therefore only 2 stars

An experience

We played this course during our holiday in Provence. It was really a great experience to play in this historic old place. The nature of the very old trees is just fantastic! Since not disturb the few private jets taking off from nearby small airport. Was also amusing to the river crossing with a mini ferry from the second to the third hole. The many locals at this place were all very friendly and accommodating.

The only negative was that the fairways were not well kept and these also are very close to each other.

Old and odd?

The Old Course Cannes Mandelieu is the oldest golf course on the Cote d 'Azur, the club holds a lot of tradition and the clubhouse exudes appropriate status. Also, the green fee price shines from certain tradition, but much of place is not exactly in the same style The place is very often neglected, the bunkers are partially unplayable because too hard and too little sand. The trip by ferry across the river La Siagne to hole 2 and back to hole 12 is very attractive. Do not forget to give the ferryman his Obulus! Is beautiful to assess that it is an ingrown with old trees and place this demand is not too precise way of playing their toll on the score. Strategy is required on holes 5,6, 9 and 10; precision is clearly preferable to these holes the length off the tee. Wide overhanging branches hinder the Tiger Line. On some stretches of space appears dull, all paths are lined with trees and look very similar.
The kitchen is too expensive, but good, but that is normal on the Cote d 'Azur. There is the possibility of the green fees with a Plat du Jour or buffet de hors d 'oevre join.
Overall, it is better to prefer clean places for cheaper green fee if you want to not only play here because of the tradition. After all, the place comes from the year 1891.
But I do not give up hope on that the care of the state space could be better and then you have definitely more fun playing this flat courses.
Still remains to be added that the little 9 hole course designed Grand Duc is relatively boring. But if you only have time for nine holes, it is an alternative. The condition is similar to that of the Old Course.
