Characteristics
Narin and Portnoo Golf Club is situated in a beautiful seaside resort in southwest Donegal, six miles from Glenties. It is considered one of the most scenic 18-hole links courses in Ireland , with sweeping views of Gweebarra Bay. A previous layout (designed by Harry Hamill of Royal Portrush) on much of the site of the current club opened in 1905 but had ceased to exist by 1919. Launched officially in July 1930, Narin and Portnoo Golf Club is engagingly old fashioned, with a meandering routing over and around the dunes. A recent course development has increased the par to 73 and has increased the range of shots required to negotiate the terrain. A warm friendly welcome awaits visitors and societies to Narin and Portnoo Golf Club and it is ideal for year-round golf. Voted the No. 80-ranked golf course in Ireland, by “Golf Digest Ireland” in 2008.

The course is extremely expensive at €300. While they do include lunch after your round, you could easily do without it given the quality of the service in the uncomfortable clubhouse.
The course is varied, well maintained, with many beautiful views of the hinterland and the Atlantic.
The place alone would be good for 5*, the overall package not

A very nice links course. The first four holes are pleasant for warming up. After that, one highlight follows another. We played the course in windy conditions; it was challenging and interesting! The par 3 holes are quite short, but still exciting in the wind. Hole 16 can be a monster in stormy weather! The fairways were good, and the greens were rather medium-speed. Otherwise, top-notch. Soup and beer were included in the green fee after the round and were excellent.

Top place with top price

You have to like the very modern clubhouse. The changing rooms are great, the restaurant service is lame. For €250 including lunch there are other options nearby that are also very good. Nevertheless, this place is great.
