Decent course

Spain golf vacation 3/5. Coming to Costa del Sol to play some good courses. Since we are crazy golfer we had for afternoon booked another course and it was Marbella GCC :D. We tried to move our tee time, but not possible since it was packed. We arrived from Arqueros, had quick lunch and drink, hit the training areas. Checking was OK, what i did not like there in restaurant that there are empty reserved tables for members in shade and free tables for tourists on sun, when we asked if can move there answer was no that we are in Marbella we should be OK with sun. So not very polite if than manager seated group non member is shade. At 3pm we hit the course, and what a nice surprise, very playable course with many interesting and nice shots. Front nine is more hilly back nine is more flat and open. Greens were OK not great but OK as well as fairways, what I see as problem in Costa del Sol is leveling tee boxes they are not in good shape. If I have to choose signature hole I would probably go for few like 2,7, 9 :D. Anyway interesting course wort of play, price was also good compare to quality, will definitely come again. And yes we were able to finish before dark.

Disapointment

Everything was in bad shape, fairways, 1st cut, greens, driving range, etc.
The course design is terrible, big disappointment.

Not up to scratch

As with the previous two reviews we played this last week and some of the greens were very iffy, I expected much more as it is classed as a top course. I went away dissapointed and unimpressed

Attractive!

The opinions can be so different: On my last round, my fellow players advised against visiting the Marbella Golf & Country Club... luckily I went anyway! A very varied, quite hilly course that always offers spectacular tee-offs and amazing views. The condition was better than expected and the greens in particular were in excellent condition. This decreased a bit on the second 9, but overall we had a lot of fun on this beautiful course. We played with the GITS card and were offered great value for money (75 including buggy). I'd be happy to come back!

A really nice, exciting place

Very friendly staff and a noble clubhouse. The course design is very exciting on the first 9 holes, up to some spectacular holes. After that you can relax and play "normally". A cart is mandatory and the price-performance ratio is right here.
Water is scarce everywhere at the moment, so the condition is only average (like almost everywhere), but the greens are immaculate. A place that you can play very often without getting bored. We will come back often.

Dear "Oldive", thank you for your great review. Water is scarce but our Bermuda grass in April is in the transition period from winter to summer grass, so this was the reason the color of the fairways was not so green when you visited us. Looking forward to seeing you soon again!

Green fee is justified

Old, impressive place, 9 holes rather narrow and short, 9 lanes much newer. If you have to wait at some significantly higher tees, you can enjoy a great view. Redesigned at least once.
Well established with many sloping layers in all directions. Fast fair greens. As is often the case in Andalusia, the sand in the bunkers is rock hard. The residential development is significantly further away from the railways than in many other places in this region. Very calm and pleasant game atmosphere.

Dear BB Spieler, thank you for your review. We only have a few villas by our 13th fairway and by the 14th green. The rest of the surrounding areas of our course are pure nature as you well indicated. Looking forward to seeing you soon again!

Very demanding and very good shot.

The first nine holes are mountainous, only top athletes can walk on them. really quite great to play, but it doesn't tolerate the slightest error and zero dispersion. if you don't manage that, you will be frustrated and drop a dozen balls.

the back nine play much more relaxed. it is wider and only slightly hilly but still good golf quality.

the place was in great shape today from A to Z.

green fee earlybird!!! almost 100 €.
I find that, compared to the other top places around, a bit expensive. but that has no influence on the place rating for me.

Love it

Unbeatable conditions for a field that was of the common denominator. With the change of address this course has hit the nail on the head, new facilities, new staff, a luxurious restaurant and a dream terrace. Unbeatable value price at this time.

Front nine challenge, back nine relaxation

Played on 3/3/2022. The 18-hole course is located just east of Marbella between the AP7 and A7 motorways, which you can see and hear. Nevertheless, the tracks run more or less without peripheral buildings through an attractive landscape. Lanes 2 to 5 are above the AP7 motorway, you cross the motorway through a tunnel. Lanes 1 to 9 differ from the back nine not only in terms of landscape but also in terms of difficulty. The front nine are steep and narrow due to the topography alone and are therefore challenging. A cart is recommended. Higher HC should at least choose the front tees on the front nine. Having a few extra balls in the bag can't hurt either. You hit from various elevated tees with great views over gorges and ponds to the fairways and greens in the valley. Sometimes you also have blind shots. It is often a rather varied course on the front nine. Water hazards also come into play again and again, even if the streams do not necessarily always carry water. But the back nine are not boring either. Here the tracks are flatter and not quite as spectacular, but still offer enough challenges. This is also ensured by a large number of well-placed bunkers, some with high edges. The condition was on the whole not perfect but okay. One or the other tee was a bit worn, the bunkers were unfortunately not always prepared, although the bunkers were partly refilled with light quartz sand. The greens were perfect, fast and not easy to play, sometimes slightly undulating. Here, as almost everywhere in the region, there is a lot of activity in the high season. If you want to play calmly and quickly, you should play early or late. Start times can be viewed and booked on the homepage. When we booked online, we paid €89 per player, including the cart, which was comparatively cheap for the high season. The cart is without GPS, but there are two small bottles of water to take with you on the loop. You can only take over the cart 10 minutes before the start time. The clubhouse is large and sophisticated, it makes an impression when you enter. The lady at the ProsShop was busy friendly. There is of course also a restaurant with an outdoor terrace (not used). The caddy master and the greenkeepers we met were very friendly. I can generally recommend the round at the Marbella Golf & Country Club.

I like the course design

The course is wild on the first 8 holes, with constant betrg up and down. But that's not a mistake, it's the designer's idea (at least for most tracks Robert Trent Jones Sr.). Or in new German not a bug, but a feature.
That being said, such a mountainous layout isn't uncommon for the Costa del Sol either, the narrow, flat stretch of coast is simply needed for other purposes, leaving only the canyons above for the golf courses.
If you get involved with this adventurous design, then you will have fun on the often criticized first 9 holes on many tracks, alternatively you will learn. On the other hand, extremely difficult tracks like the 2.6 and 7 are also opposed to the 4.5 and 8. Three par 4, on which even with a moderately long tee shot (if you played with brains and didn't hit the ball blindly into the botany) you only have a simple pitch into the green.

As everywhere on the Costa del Sol, the first task is to keep the ball in play, then, depending on the skill level, the birdie, par or bogey chances come naturally.

The condition here has been solid for years. There are better maintained places, hence only 4 stars. After all, the buggies are in top condition.

Not again

5:20 hours playing time. Nobody cares about the game. No matter what happens (play wrong greens, come back on the hole). And all of this on a space that has been shortened by several 100 m! But woe betide you walk across the square, then the stables will be there after 10 minutes at the latest! That was simply the worst golf experience ever!

No recommendation

Played in mid-October - high season. 4.40h in a 4-person flight with 14:20 tee time. So a lot of waiting despite the late start. You have to play with a buggy and were only allowed to pick it up 10 minutes before tee time... The front nine are simply not fun. Condition fairways - partly bad but greens ok. Very hard ground and many sloping fairways also make good shots a poor result. Back nine a little better, but all in all not a relaxing and joyful golf experience. There are better places in the region even if the clubhouse was almost worth the visit.

Need not be

"Schluchtengolf", as you can read in some reviews, hits the mark quite well. At least for the first nine. After that it gets a little quieter, but not necessarily better. A few meaningful signs with the layouts of the individual tracks would be helpful. Overall, the course is getting old and in some places requires a thorough overhaul. With the competition around it, a visit here does not necessarily have to be.

Difficult place

The course already has it all. especially the front nine require full concentration otherwise the balls at the already narrow fairways are just untraceable!! the back 9 are lighter - wider, etc. The greens are not for the illiterate. Buggy is mandatory. the service at check in top; in the rest. a bit overbearing. If you are looking for an exciting round, then this is the place for you.

Top

It is an older Robert Trent Jones project, probably from the pen of the master himself. Narrow fairways, raised greens, which hang on all sides require exact play. Who complains here as a Siglehandicapper numerous ball losses must ask themselves, on which ballerwiese he merit meriten. Which handicap you play is actually no matter, but straight ahead you should be able to beat the tee to have fun. Gruens fast, well maintained as well as the fairways. We had a slow-paced 3-flight flight for a while, the Marshall had everything under control and clarified the situation highly appropriate and low-noise. Great!
From the middle of May, you will be offered 2 GF plus Buggy for 155 Euro, including a 10 Euro consumption voucher for the clubhouse terrace incl. / HALLO! a bargain!

Mediocre, not a "must", spectacular, however, the great views of the sea.

The place is not very well maintained. The fairway does not deserve the name. The driving range is grazed in literally and the local "supervisors" is rude.

Canyon Golf

A getting on in age space.
It started with the driving range, deductions from the sand, no green.
In many strokes you do not know how to go behind the hill, you hit blind, the first time difficult.
The condition is quite improved.
The staff correctly, not particularly ambitious.

Bad Condition, front 9 Mickey Mouse

Big disappointment

We played the course in March 2015 and we were very disappointed.
The greens are slow for Spanish standards. Fairways are in horrible condition. The first 9 holes are bored and in poor condition. The Back Nine are a little better, but not particularly exciting. The resort comprises of many Dutch and English tümmeln around.
The cuisine is average to poor. Driving Range is ne smooth 6 (unsatisfactory).
The green fee Pei-performance ratio is an absolute joke. I can only everyone were to play there.

Contrary to expectations,

We (male HCP 9 and 18) have played the course in mid January 2015.
The start time I have booked in advance via the website, you'll save a few Euros.
Upon arrival at the club house you can already see a few laps and think "oh well more of a wide and flat space", but I was wrong.
The first nine are really nice built in the mountains, some with narrow fairways.
Since the tracks are rather short one can here the Driver ever be stuck. In the approximations precision is required, because the greens are partially raised.
The back nine are rather flat, but by the good layout, not boring.
Overall, a great golf course, we will visit again.

Außergewöhnlcher place; precision is required!

From our perspective (hcp 7 and 8) a spectacular place, but nothing for the faint hearted and is Hcp over 20.

In particular, the first 9 were built in the mountains and heavily integrated into the existing landscape. Far from a standard parkland course has to be played very precisely in order to avoid losing the ball here frequently. Since the place was very dry, the greens kept extremely poor and often a gewähnter ball found himself "on the floor" far away from green again.

Tactical game is a must here. Inexperienced players and good players having a bad day can despair leocht to the first 9 because the ball often bounced sideways and is then lost forever.

The second 9 are also nice, but rather that, as you know the places in the area.

Greens all swift as an arrow, but too dry for our sensibilities.

Buggy indispensable.

Wonderful Course

In September 2013, very well maintained, fast greens.
This course, especially the first nine, you should know if you want to run scoring against. just around the greens, the terrain is often difficult to play, so better take "in regulation" :-) we have enjoyed on the day interesting and hilly course.

Can we not have to

The first 9 are really great and sometimes spectacular but also not easy, the 2nd 9 act somewhat more boring but it is certainly not. There are plenty of traps, as always with Robert Trent Jones designs. The condition was ok, unfortunately, a few wild animals had been raging in some corners. But there were plenty of workers to swing the Spicht for themselves. Beautiful large club house terrace.

Golf with a lot of variety

The first 9 holes are extremely exciting because then it goes into the mountains. Constant up and down demanding golfers of all abilities. Often great distances to be mastered (4). Ball tatsächich loss means loss of possession. Who has not really sufficient condition, which should definitely choose a Cart! That was the price of € 55 green fee - includiert.
The back nine can be described as a familiar game. Wide fairways, many bunkers and water slightly.
Highly recommended is after the game that linger on the terrace with stunning views of the sea.
