Characteristics

Laleham Golf Course is a challenging 18-hole parkland course and stands on 98 acres of meadowland on the opposite side of the River Thames to Laleham Village.

At around 6,300 yards, it provides a fair but testing challenge to golfers of all standards; with five par 3’s and three par 5’s the flat terrain ensures that a round - or even two - can be enjoyed with reasonable ease. The par 70 course is filled with challenging holes, by way of narrow fairways, well placed water hazards and tight shots into the undulating greens. Noted for its outstanding all year round condition, Laleham is known locally for its excellent drainage and always being open when other courses close due to the weather conditions.

The course has 2 relatively new holes...a long par 4 with lateral water hazard all the way down the left that has earned itself the stroke index one and a new short hole par 3 to a narrow green with bunkers back and front!

The course is a fascinating mix that combines dog-legs, occasional carries over water and trees lined fairways; while golfers will require a fine putting touch on the undulating immaculate greens to score well. From the back tees many holes place a premium on the accuracy of your tee shot. The course is over 100 years old and whilst it is not a forest course, there are plenty of fully mature trees to enclose certain holes. To spice it up further, the bunkers tend to be deep and pot hole styled; they wouldn't look out of place on a links!

With over 25 years experience in the golfing industry, Richard has been PGA Qualified since 1994 and trained by Bernard Hunt MBE

Having played in the Ryder cup and captained it twice in 73 & 75 Bernard Hunt also achieved acclaim for winning 33 world -wide tournaments and, I am proud to say is my golfing mentor. Bernard took me on a 3 month trial back in May 1985 and I have never looked back. Not only did Bernard teach me my golf swing but he installed in me, amongst many attributes, a level of customer service which is second to none. Bernard also introduced me to many golfing greats, Sir Peter Aliss, John Jacobs, Neil Coles and Sir Henry Cotton all of whom had wonderful golfing Knowledge and experience.

Teaching golf is a huge passion and apart from the above aforementioned names I have studied David Leadbetter, Butch Harmon, Ben Hogan to name a few, all of which has helped me build up an extensive knowledge of the golf swing. I currently have 3 junior England internationals on my books and I had a hand in the development of Paul Casey and Anthony Wall who both have successful tournament records on the European tour. However, I get just as much satisfaction helping my students through any golfing troubles big or small.
