Great course

I am not sure where the 2 star ratings from before come from, this course is superb - Olazabal is a great designer. Bearing in mind the course is only 2 years old, it is going to be even better in the future. As part of a group of very experienced low-handicap golfers playing La Monacilla for the first time, we all came off the course full of praise - most of us have played all the top courses in Spain and would rate this in the Top 10-20 already. Definitely one to play if you are in Huelva Province.

Disappointing boring course!

The clubhouse was not ready yet, so receipt was in a container next to the driving range. Starting time was no problem, we were alone on the course! We expected a lot of this course and after a bland hole 1, holes 2 - 7 did meet our expectations. Interesting and varying holes with some elevation. Exciting par 5 water hole 7. After that the inspriration of Olazabal seemed gone. Holes 8 - 18 are the most boring ever. Only very flat straight tree lined holes with uninspired bunkering and only variation is in length. What could be the reason for this? Lack of funds due to unsold houses? I hope Olazabal will be more inspired at the next Ryder Cup!

Bad Condition

All in all a sad situation. Started in the clubhouse. Rather makeshift and uninviting to buy anything there. Tea boxes still worked. Fairways don't deserve the name - both visually and in terms of maintenance. Little grass and that was mostly yellow or looked burnt - and above all a rock-hard ground. It helps to make the drive a little longer, the position of the ball was mostly terrible. Greens were ok but quite slow for the hard ground. Visiting the restaurant was ok - we had a good beer with our Spanish flight partner 😉 We didn't eat. Altogether even 45 € is too much…

Condition and design unfortunately rather below average

Played on September 5th, 2021. The almost completely flat 18-hole course is practically opposite the small Andalusian town of Huelva, only separated by the Odiel river. One has or had great plans. Many villas should be built around the golf course or a new residential area should be created. The area is entered through a security gate and the corresponding cars are often patrolled. However, most of the houses have not yet been built and are unlikely to be built in the short term. A few are under construction. And so you play the course mainly through still untouched nature, partly the tracks are lined with pine and / or pine trees, whereby most of the tees are very open and also high HC should be able to cope. The course was apparently designed by Spanish golf professional Jose Maria Olazabal. Without getting too close to the gifted golfer, but I would have expected more variety. Most of the fairways run straight ahead and the real challenge only arises on the few tracks where water comes into play, for example on the 2 and the 7. The raised yellow tee off the 4 is one of the few highlights. A couple of well-placed bunkers and that's about it. The 18th was a big disappointment at the end of the day. Unfortunately, what is probably due to the current situation is the below-average condition of the fairways. Not only that most of them are pretty dry, so is practically everywhere and the continuous foreign growth cannot be overlooked. Due to the dryness, the balls jump and roll out correspondingly longer. The greens weren't a feast for the eyes either, but at least playable and relatively fast and faithful. The discounts are just OK, even if these are very dry. So the game operations on a Sunday afternoon were therefore very manageable. We had requested a start time in advance by e-mail and received an answer very quickly at the desired time. An online reservation via the homepage is unfortunately not possible. We were there a little earlier and could start playing immediately without seeing another golfer on the course in front of or behind us. Sometimes it was a bit lonely. Most of the paths are relatively well signposted, but sometimes you have to look around a little where to continue, then just follow the well-developed cart paths, even if some of them are overgrown again. The clubhouse with restaurant makes a good impression (restaurant not used). The pro shop with the Caddy-Master is located in the basement. The employee was extremely nice and friendly and explained everything to us and also apologized a little for what awaited us. He then let us play for a mercilessly cheap € 60 (2 people including cart). The various green fees mentioned on the homepage are in any case much too high in the current situation. The cart was placed ready for us in the parking lot in front of our car. It had probably seen better days, no GPS, but a broken seat and the battery only lasted 18 holes. A cart is definitely recommended due to the one or the other long way between the tracks. Incidentally, the 9 does not end directly at the clubhouse, but a little away from it. At the tees of 7 and 13 there is the possibility of filling up water from the tanks provided. And there is a small, cute but clean toilet at 11. All in all, it is definitely not a must have to play here, but it is an unusual experience. The rating is between two and three stars, but since it was a beautiful day despite everything, there are three stars.

Beautiful golf course

Spectacular nature, very nice to play with manicured greens, some very long another hole.
I try very pleasant staff and the clubhouse and the 19th hole.
The second 9 holes are grateful for its freshness in summer.

Incredibly poor condition

"Enjoy golf like never before," it.. heißt on the Web site of Monacilla Golf Club. Well, we played the course in early September 2015, but something I have not experienced in 15 years of golf in a negative sense.
The fairways were mostly totally burned (despite Faiwaybewässerung) or completely without grass cover. In most bunkers no sand was (were probably just renewed?). Consistently poor condition of the greens, partly without grass (earth) or completely slow and bumpy ungemäht. All Vorgrüns were slotted aerifiziert and sanded so to chipping was not thinking. One had the impression to play a golf course that was closed for three years, so unkempt and partially damaged worked all the facilities on the site as roads, bridges, roughs etc. Strangely, the place is I think only five years old, is missing here apparently the funds.

Disappointing

I have been the days April 30 and May 1,2014. Concerted group while for a tournament, and the organization was disappointing, we got a bus of English among the parties and waited 1 hour.. we went out shooting and very poorly informed us of the place of the holes, especially the farthest. the harsh streets, boats impossible to control, noted some very poorly away Grines tees of the previous hole... I would not recommend.

Great Place

The place surprised us very positively. Beautiful, open tracks. Also suitable for beginners. The greens were fast and well maintained. Greenkeeper were visible everywhere you look around the place. Friendly staff and nice clubhouse round out the whole. We hsben 90 euros for two including green fee paid. Price / performance is very good! Our highlight of the Costa del Luz!

Golf Club La Monacilla

The nights here are a bit too rosy to me, it certainly is nice and easy to play. The fairways have suffered badly through the winter and they are all brown. But greens are pretty neat and sophisticated. From a very nice club house has a great view but a very barren terrain, there is still some need to grow to act nice.
Comparison to the surrounding places Bella Vista and El rompido he does not stand up; would have to happen but still a lot.

We were pleasantly surprised!

Today we were playing here and were pleasantly surprised! Even if the place is still new, it has never seen in the game so! Beautiful trees makes the place a little oasis in an otherwise beautiful landscape! Only to complain about the lack of toilets.

Facilities Poorly run unfinished

The best are the streets of Bermuda, and the design of 1 to 8, is a bit boring after the second round. The organization is a mess around the clubhouse are not finished. No drinking water in the field, no toilets, no marshall, very tatty and championships.

Very well maintained great place.

I played the course with my girlfriend on the last day of a golf tour in September 2011 and would like to here the Course still enjoyed a second time. The place is only opened in April 2011. Everything is well maintained here, the fairways are like a green carpet, strategically large bunkers with soft sand (you can get not at all places in the region) and large greens make this cherubs to the enjoyment. The course is usually surrounded by a pine forest, but also large water hazards lining some holes. At noon we were almost alone on the court, arrived in the afternoon but then other players. We took advantage of a promotional rate, "2 players with buggy" Twilight complete from 12 fabulous clock for 70 euros. The clubhouse and restaurant is very modern, the golf shop but a bit spartan on offer. Next to the club house there is a large driving range (over 300 meters) with several neat putt / pitch / chip areas.
In the region of Huelva La Mancilla is for us one of the most beautiful places, and the next trip to the region be back playing here.
