Designed by the renowned Cabell Robinson, each 18-hole course has been created to ensure a testing, yet truly exhilarating experience.
The three 18-hole championship courses all offer a different challenge,
America Course: Campo America is enhanced by spectacular views to the Sierra de Ojén and Mediterranean Sea.
It’s wide, linked fairways and relatively few bunkers make this a slightly easier driving course, though the hilly topography requires a lot of carry across steep brush-covered side slopes. while the small raised greens demands more precise club selection to hit the mark.
There are water hazards on the 9th and 16th.
Asia Course: The spectacular Campo Asia has plenty of challenging holes, guaranteeing a testing round of golf which puts a premium on the approach shot.
The oldest of our three courses and the one most respected by the professionals, it is narrow and short, with four par 5 holes demanding skill and strategy.
Look out for the 10th with its classic design, and the 5th where the aim of your drive is especially critical. The 18th requires full concentration. Remember not to over-club off the tee or this lengthy par 5 could spoil your scorecard.
Europa Course: A dramatic course but easier for the average golfer, with generous fairways, flatter terrain and slightly larger greens than Campo America and Asia. Notable for one main bridge and four smaller bridges across the River Ojén, which features in eight holes, cutting across three fairways. There are four tunnels for golf carts.Water hazards guard the 3rd and 14th greens. The 14th is at the maximum limit of what is allowed for a par 3 at 233 metres. The par 5 11th is the longest hole at 524 metres.
The resort features La Cala Golf Academy, where multilingual professionals offer both individual and group lessons for beginners as well as experienced golfers looking to further improve their game.
Located next to the 9-hole par-3 course and overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, the academy provides all the facilities needed to learn golf or enhance your skills: a natural grass driving range, putting and chipping areas, and bunkers.

54-hole challenge with high player activity

Played on September 4th (Europe), September 8th (Asia), and September 10th, 2026 (America). The resort, including the hotel and three full 18-hole courses, is located approximately 40 km or a 30-minute drive south of Malaga Airport, somewhat inland but still before the mountains, nestled in a landscape that is now largely developed with holiday resorts, or in some cases, still under development. Signage from the A7 and AP7 motorways is good. The large, modern clubhouse offers everything golfers need, including a terrace restaurant (not used) with an elevated view of the course and a gym area in the basement, where the pro shop is also located. From the parking lot, an elevator takes you down two floors to the pro shop and the caddymaster, where the obligatory golf carts, always included in the green fee, are available. Officially, you can only pick up your cart 20 minutes before your tee time. However, we were always able to pick it up a little earlier in the afternoon. The drive to the first tee of the Europe course is furthest from the clubhouse and takes almost 5 minutes. The staff in the pro shop and the caddymaster were friendly and explained everything. This is all the more surprising given the sheer number of players, which made the place feel like an anthill. The organization is good, though. The caddymaster has a display where you can enter your handicap and it will then show you your playing handicap for the specific course. Green fees vary depending on the time of year and day. The price differences between the individual courses are not significant. There are sundowner rates in the afternoon from 3 or 4 pm, depending on the season, which significantly reduce the green fee. You can also purchase green fee packages. You can book your tee time online, but you have to pay immediately. The carts don't have GPS or water, and towels aren't provided either. There is, of course, a driving range, but it's about 1 km from the clubhouse. A larger putting green is located next to the parking lot at the tee of the Asia Course. Now to the individual courses: Europa winds its way through the landscape with plenty of ups and downs, sloping lies, and blind shots. There are open and narrow tees. Several times you have to carry streams, some of which are spanned by fairly large bridges. Strategic play is definitely an advantage. Several of the men's tees, in particular, are elevated. Europa was in good condition, the bunkers were filled with fine sand, and the greens were impeccable with a medium speed. After nine holes, you pass the first tee again, where a drinks machine provides refreshments if desired. There are plenty of restrooms available during your round, which is also true for the other two courses. It's truly remarkable how the 54 holes have been laid out in this terrain. The Asia Course also has several elevated tees with fantastic views of the surrounding area and, occasionally, even a sea view. The highlight here is the 11th tee (par 3), short but deep. Due to the terrain, blind shots are more common on Asia. Many of the greens are elevated, so you should aim for them with high shots. Asia features both open and narrow tee boxes. Higher handicappers should generally tee off from the blue or red holes, although the red tees often pose no challenge at all. The first and tenth tees at Asia are located above the clubhouse, where there's also a small halfway bar. The course was in excellent condition at Asia, although the greens could have been a bit faster and truer. What was noticeable at Asia, in contrast to Europe, was the higher traffic, particularly from some rather slow-playing men's foursomes. Some let us through as a couple, while others complained about the groups ahead being too slow, often resulting in incorrectly parked carts and, of course, having to putt out with the flag out. The American Course was the busiest. Foursomes teed off one after another, even after 4 p.m., so you barely reach the 18th hole in 4.5 hours, just as the last light fades. In my opinion, the American Course is the most demanding, even though the three courses don't differ significantly in handicap. On some tee shots, you need a certain distance from the yellow tees just to have a chance of reaching the fairway. Losing a ball is a real risk here. Right from the first tee, there are also several elevated tees, blind tees, and narrow ones. Otherwise, the layout and condition are similar to the other two courses. Everyone can decide for themselves; I can recommend all three.

I just spent three weeks on a golfing holiday in Andalusia with some friends and played many beautiful courses on the Costa del Sol. Since a golfing friend had told us that La Cala Golf Club was ranked 71st among the world's best golf courses, we booked three rounds on all three courses in advance. We then discovered that La Cala's ranking must be a joke. Never trust a poll you haven't influenced yourself!
Here is a selection of our experiences:
- The fairways are largely bare, lacking any grass. Other golf courses in the area, under similar climatic conditions, had no problems with well-maintained fairways.
- The greens appear uniformly green because they have been sprayed with paint.
-The buggyways had numerous potholes.
-The edges of the fairways are overgrown with bushes and weeds.
Some of the multiple properties are located so close to the fairways that a slice would land in the front gardens.
- We had a buggy that would have been immediately taken out of service during a safety inspection due to worn steering, warped wheel suspension and poor tire grip.
Given the very high green fee prices, all of this is unacceptable.
I photographed several of the defects for confirmation and will show them to my golfing friends. Unfortunately, I cannot include them in this review.
In summary, stay away from La Cala.

We played *America*. This course is topographically a delight, and this topography is also the constant main obstacle, besides the sand bunkers. Unfortunately, you can't and aren't allowed to walk the course.
However, at a green fee of €140, one should expect a course that offers a certain level of quality. This is now only partially the case here, especially since this price is almost 50% higher than that of relatively similar neighboring golf courses.

Fairways: You play on the grass for many stretches. Many bunkers contain a maximum of 2 cm of sand with a rock-hard base underneath. E-cart computer: The screen is so faded that it's almost impossible to see anything, and the distance to the flag is not displayed correctly.
