Fire course - not good value

Wide open fairways, well designed course with narrow rough; if you miss it you are in trouble in the junk... Facilities are great. Greens are not the best, they are fairly fast but not flawless. Practice greens are sandy and different from the greens on the course so it won't prepare you to the game. The grass on the fairways is not so solid. Driving range bays are worn too; it isn't very enjoyable to hit balls from the soil. Golf is enjoyable for high handicappers as well. However the condition of the course and practice facilities didn't fulfil my expectations for nearly a thousand of dirhams (approximately 250 euro at the time) greenfee. For that money it isn't a good value golf whatsoever.

The clubhouse with several restaurants is sophisticated and the locker rooms are the best. Here, some tour players have branded their caddy cabinets with their names and national flags. The two trophies of the tour are displayed in showcases and the scorecards of last year's tour winner are posted. The service in the clubhouse is friendly and perfect, from the golf receptionist to the starter to the marshal. About the courses: Earth course: The ultimate challenge are the many bunkers with meter-high edges. In addition, the bunkers are extremely placed in the landing zones and in front of the greens. We felt like we were in almost every one of these bunkers, although the fairways are actually wide enough. The bunkers magically attract the balls. The tracks are laid out in a varied way. It gets even more exciting at the end on holes 14 to 18, where extreme water including island green comes into play on hole 17. And of course the final on the 18 (PAR5) where a stream practically runs through the entire course and congratulations to those who don't lose a ball in the water here. Then there are the fast and undulating greens. It is fair to say that this is the hardest course in Dubai. Maybe that's also the reason why there was relatively little game activity here. In addition, there is the extremely high price for the green fee. We booked a sundowner rate from 2:30 p.m. for €175 per person via the VIJA app. The normal price is twice as high. The price includes, of course, the cart with GPS and the range balls. There is also a branded water refill bottle as a gift. At every second tee you can fill them up. A refreshment station on the front nine and sufficient toilets on the round are available. The condition was impeccable. Behind us (we were pretty much the last flight that day) the fairways were sanded and watered. Fire course: It is a bit easier to play, although you often have to stretch from the tee to reach the fairway. The bunkers are also well placed, but not too deep. The lanes mostly have wide fairways, the greens are almost as fast as on Earth. The PAR3 are all very long and the highlights of the course. There is water, but not that often. The really big highlights are missing here, but it doesn't get boring either. The condition was impeccable. The game operation on a Sunday afternoon was lively but not overcrowded. Here, too, it is advisable to book a start time with a discount via the VIJA app. Despite the discount, we still paid €165 for the round including cart and range balls. Overall there is nothing wrong with the Jumeirah Golf Resort. Where the DP World Tour plays, you should also enjoy the seats.

Played the Fire course for the last time in 2015 and even then I didn't like the messy condition off the fairways. Nothing has improved here, but rather worsened, you only have to compare this with the Earth course. We were here for the BMW Golf Cup World Finals in the second week of December 2021 and played both the Fire and Earth courses.

The Fire is a little easier to play than the Earth. However, this course can also be described as very demanding from the longer men's tees. Par 3s sometimes have more than 210 m. Shorter courses get their difficulty from well-placed bunkers and insanely undulating greens.
The Earth course is a blast from the back tees. Very difficult for amateurs. And in the "right" areas there are always impressive fairway or green bunkers with bunker edges that are sometimes more than 2.5 m high. So you should have bunker shots, because you will certainly not be spared.
With some railways, you have the impression - no matter where - you are always striking in the direction of the bunker. There's something scary about that.
The big greens with many breaks do the rest.
In addition, there were sometimes super difficult flag positions for us.
The range was great. We are equipped with ProV1. The practice putting green is large, although not with that many breaks. This is where you can practice the long puts that the space will need later.
The greens on the course were - probably due to the previous Race to Dubai - pretty fast.
We played without a game specification - only with the specified HC. Those who manage their HC with it can consider themselves lucky.
The staff was extremely courteous.
