Helsingin Golfklubi, widely known as Tali, holds the prestigious title of Finland's oldest golf club. Founded in 1932, this 'Modern Classic' is situated in the historic manor grounds of Pitäjänmäki, just a short drive from the center of Helsinki. The 18-hole parkland course is steeped in history, having been expanded for the 1952 Olympics. It is defined by its mature trees, short transitions between holes, and famously small, slick greens that demand precise approach shots. While the layout is compact, it remains a stern test for golfers of all abilities. The club is certainly one of the oldest places in Finland.
You can tell that little value is placed on guests. (For example, there are no logo balls - a query about this was rather surprising.) The layout is rather boring on the first nine holes and gets somewhat better on the second half.
The service is OK - we were informed by email that carts are not possible due to humidity.
The condition of the plants and the greens were good.
The course cannot compete with the facilities of Masters, Hirsala or Kytäjä - but they charge a higher green fee!
