Characteristics
Established in 1906, Hartlepool Golf Club offers a traditional links experience on the rugged North East coast of England. Situated within natural sand dunes, the course features design elements by the legendary James Braid and commands spectacular views of the coastline. The layout presents a stern strategic challenge where wind direction dictates club selection, with undulating fairways and deep ravines guarding the greens. The back nine is particularly notable, featuring the signature 10th hole, known as "The Jewel," which plays directly seaward. Having co-hosted The English Amateur in 2024, the course condition is of championship standard. Visitors can unwind in a welcoming clubhouse that offers dining facilities and panoramic views over the course and sea.

Worth a detour

Beautiful links course, the first few holes were somewhat unspectacular, but things got interesting from hole 6 onwards. Blind holes behind the dunes, small greens – knowledge of the course would be an advantage. :-)
Some of the fairways were very wide and there was no rough, and the greens were rather slow, so it didn't get 5 stars.
We would definitely play it again, a clear recommendation.
