Characteristics

The GolfResort Weimarer Land is located just a few kilometers from the city of Weimar in central Germany. The wonderful 45-hole golf courses (the largest connected golf ground in Thuringia, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt) consist of two 18-hole courses (“Goethe” and “Feininger”), one

9-hole course to practice and a driving range. Furthermore, there is a third possibility to play in the amazing nature: the “Bobby Jones Champions Course” – a combination of the Goethe and Feininger course. A free trail lesson takes place every Sunday from 2 till 3 p.m..

The hotel is opened in May 2013 on the heritage-listed estate and offers its golf and spa guests a relaxed and secluded stay.

Families are just as well catered for, as the hotel has a separate building with seven spacious family suites and a playhouse with a supervised kids’ programme.

Expectations were higher...

I have played over 700 golf courses, but I had never managed to play WEIMAER LAND before. Now we were able to combine a stay in a hotel there with two rounds of golf.
The hotel's service and especially the quality of the food really impressed us! And the spa area. Top notch! Our expectations for both courses were higher, based on the descriptions, ratings and pricing. FEININGER is comparable to many courses in countless holiday resorts... the process has to be quick. No problems. The landscape is beautiful though, you can often let your gaze wander over several courses... No problems at GOETHE either, apart from the one island green. You'll hardly remember a single course. The course maintenance was OK at the beginning of September, but the quality of the bunkers, especially at GOETHE, should be better. What the BOBBY JONES combination is supposed to achieve (apart from the increased green fee) is incomprehensible. You play a combination of 18 courses from the two GOETHE and FEININGER courses, i.e. existing courses, and pay even more!? How is that supposed to work when both courses are at high capacity? Greenkeepers have adapted superbly to the flow of the game! What is not at all fitting for this super resort: guests cannot find the club and trolley cleaning area - no signs. And only a small water basin and only one compressed air hose with a very short tip, so that the dirt immediately sprays back into your face. During a big tournament there is sure to be chaos here.

Great place, but points deducted during European Championship

We played the Feiningerplatz on June 7th, as the Goetheplatz was closed due to preparations for the English national team's quarters. The fairways and greens were in top condition and the design of the course was very appealing and enhanced by the new trees. As the English national team is using the Weimar Golf Resort as quarters during the European Championships, the restaurant and sanitary facilities were closed for us golfers and we had to start from the horse farm. Therefore only 4 out of 5 points.

OK, but not anymore

We searched in vain for "one of the most beautiful golf courses in Germany" on the Goethe course. Even though the course is in principle beautifully embedded in the surroundings, it still seems very artificial, the level differences between tees, fairways and greens are sometimes too deliberate and the individual holes run uninspiringly next to each other. The condition of the course was generally fine, only the greens were in a really bad condition in some places (end of April 2024). The clubhouse is nice, but that's all. Since we played at lunchtime, we wanted to take a sandwich or something similar with us. The waiter said: "We don't have anything like that." We had to make do with a bag of chips and a cereal bar. I imagine good service in a facility of this size to be different.
